When aew first started I watched everything they put out each week. Now I’m down to just Dynamite and Rampage(most weeks. I skip if it doesn’t look noteworthy.) the darks have become too time consuming for me to watch every week, they usually have run times around 1.5-2 hours and it’s 2 hours worth of 5 minute squashes. I get why these shows exist in their current state though, it allows AEW to pad records and make their whole ranking system make sense.
They should do away with the rankings. With the bloated roster I don’t see how it can function as intended
I didn’t think the records/rankings thing would work, but I think it has and I’ve grown to like it as it makes the titles mean more.

How often have they actually publicized the rankings?

The one win is for 2022. The top 5 from the previous year stay in their ranking even though the records reset.
They don’t do the rankings announcement on tv, but the announcers always reference the rankings during Dynamite and Rampage. I’m not saying it’s perfect but I think it adds something to show, especially whe. Their competitor doesn’t consider wins and losses at all when booking.

If the rankings carryover has does anybody gain ground without way too many squash matches…I enjoyed it and thought it was effective when their roster wasn’t so bloated but now there’s just too much suspension of disbelief.

Yeah but still how does anybody realistically gain ground on the top 5? I suppose I’m just more of a fan of organically developing feuds/storylines that lead to title matches.
