I noticed the guy fixing up my steel frame Schwinn is always like 40 or 50 seconds ahead of me on Strava segments. I feel like I need to pick up the pace before I can step into his shop again and look him in the eye.

It’s just so tough to sprint at night when I ride the most. I’m so afraid of cars and potholes.

Do you have any recent pics of the fixer-upper?

I've been working on a touring bike for my son and I found out that the bar-end shifters someone sold me were actually shot so that was annoying. First bummer from Craigslist though so I guess it's not too bad. Bought some Dura Ace ones as a replacement and it put me in a mind to shiny up the rest of the bike because they look so nice. I'm thinking of getting the frame sand-blasted and then powder coated, I just have to get him to pick a color.

He doesn't know it but he's doing a multi-night trip with me next summer, probably to the coast and back or something.

No recent pics. I'm getting kind of impatient, however when I dropped it off I didn't stress a timeline and the mechanic did tell me that it's going to be a weekend hobby project for him, so yeah...

Biking to work instead of bus ride in/bike ride out is just around the corner with this coming weather change. I can't wait.

The weather here is getting cooler so it's only a matter of time before the rains start. I didn't mind suiting up for a wet ride when I knew I had a shower and a dry play to store my bike waiting for me but now it's a 10 minute ride, there's no shower, and I would feel really bad to leave my bike in the hallway dripping water on the carpet.

But this weekend is a nice two-day trip that I've done before two years ago. I would have done it last year but there was this fire, you know? And they cancelled the ride for some reason.

Almost finished with my 1x mountain bike. I just need some brakes and a seat post and then cable it all together and it's ready to go. Took it for a short ride yesterday in front of my house to check the shifting and it was running alright. Little odd to shift while standing but it worked; the chain only fell off once. Apparently this is a known problem with this kind of gearing because of the chain movement so I'll think about getting a chain guide. Not a necessity like a seat post but probably nice to have eventually.

Zero percent chance I have less than two bicycles this time next year. Thinking about getting a mtn or gravel...

Took it for a short ride yesterday in front of my house to check the shifting and it was running alright. Little odd to shift while standing but it worked; the chain only fell off once. Not a necessity like a seat post but probably nice to have eventually.

kind of late to your conversation here, so i apologize. but i'm curious about your saddle post. i'm getting a dropper post (a rockshox reverb) that i wish i would've gotten when i got my bike 1.5 years ago; i just never thought i'd need it around here. but it didn't long before i realized that getting your seat out of the way makes things so much easier.

Thanks. Last time I started 'late' and went the wrong way at the beginning so the support vehicle decided to follow me the whole way since I was the last person and it was maddening having a vehicle ten feet behind me during the climbing. I'm going around 10-12 mph up a hill and I can hear the tires behind me and it made me feel like I was going to be run off the road at any minute. And there is a lot of climbing on the way out. The way back in I was probably the third or fourth person back because a) less climbing and b) I started at the same time as everyone else.

Not right now but I'll get some when I get home.

My wife was a one-bike person until she realized that her road bike with the skinny tires doesn't like going off-road.

I haven't bought a seat post yet but I've looked at the dropper posts. It's something I'm going to keep in mind because my wife keeps saying we should go up to Mt. Hood and ride some of the trails. I kind of liken it to skiing - I'm perfectly happy doing the easy routes, no need to go diamond or anything.

Bought me a 7-speed cruiser yesterday. I can't wait for it to get here. i don't know shit about bikes, but it seems like a good one.

Well it's been a while, but here we are. I pick it up on Friday. I can't wait to finally ride this thing. It's been seven months since the start of the project.

Everything except the frame and the shifters were replaced. The lugged fork from soma fab was about half the price of the invoice, but essential to the personality of this bike's new life. I'm really happy with the way everything turned out, but I'll probably still go brown with the tape and saddle at some point.

My friend working on it at the shop begged me every step of the way to make it a single speed, but I just couldn't give in. I need to give him multiple gifts of beer in 2019.

2 weeks in a row i went out biking on the single track, and 2 times i just missed the window and hit the trails after the thaw. i wasn't about to rut them up, so i called it quits. i'm going to have to get out before 9:30 a.m. after freezing temperatures if i want to ride from now until march. crap.

I think I understand this post, but I’m not 100%. It never freezes where I live, so a lot of this is alien to me.
