Never met Gwynn, but was told awhile back from a sports agent (not Gywnn's agent) in San Diego that Gywnn was the "real deal" in terms of being an all-around good guy, giving back to the community, etc. RIP. :peace:

We can call that the Tony Slam. Some times people can get too wrapped up on streaks having to span an exact calendar year.

Not necessarily. It's still pretty damn impressive.

It's still very impressive. I just find it more impressive when done over the course of a single campaign.

Imagine if Gwynn had been a part of a good lineup throughout his career. Most of the time, he was one of the only good hitters on the team. If he had been the #2 hitter in a stacked lineup or something like that? He might have hit 400 more than once.

Gwynn in his career vs Maddux, Glavine and Smoltz COMBINED hit .393 in his career and struck out 3 times. Guy is one of the best hitters ever.
