To me this signals that a rookie coach lost the locker room, so bring a vet coach in that Giannis and Dame will listen to. Not a great look.

I guess the Bucks brought in Doc to informally consult Griffin awhile ago, which makes this even weirder.

*ten seconds later*
"Bucks are interested in Doc Rivers"
Me: Oh please Doc go to Milwaukee, this is the best day ever!

So I’m seeing the Bucks are 30-13 and 2nd in the East?

Damn.

Interested in Spike's response but the perception has been that Griffin hasn't been good and lost the locker room. Bad offensive and defensive schemes, etc.

Wasn't he hand picked by Giannis? Maybe they shouldn't let the players be the GMs

This seems to be the case. Griffin had a meeting with the core guys after the in season tourney loss to the Pacers (Giannis, Dame, Middleton, Lopez) where they all aired their grievances. I guess Griffin pointed out that other guys were open a lot, and mentioned sacrifice, and that didn’t go over well with those guys. Which could be seems as diva behavior, but these guys are great because of their confidence in what they do, so you’re not going to convince Giannis to find an open Pat Connaughton on every play, when he knows he can beat just about anyone to the rim.

So I guess that boils down to an ability to manage and understand the personalities of the greatest basketball players on earth, which is a huge part of a head coach’s job, and Griffin was probably operating like an assistant still. Hence bring in a guy like Doc, who may be questionable as far as X’s and O’s, but he does know how to manage egos.

I think, for better or worse, it’s all about keeping Giannis happy and him believing the team has the best chance to win it all. If that’s not in place, nothing else works, so you have no choice but to fire the coach during a successful season, if it’s only going to deteriorate further. I commend Bucks brsss for understanding they have a limited window and not messing around. Whether it works is another story.

The weirdness with Terry Stotts right before the start for the season was a clear sign that it was heading this way.

Yeah, I give them props for not being pot committed and correcting that mistake now. Would have been easy to win 50 games and get bounced again in round 1 or 2 before getting rid of him. On the other hand, Doc Rivers has been legitimately terrible in the playoffs, so...

Apparently Giannis did not want them to hire Nick Nurse in the offseason coaching carousal.

The silver lining of my beloved OG getting traded is that he's finally getting the respect and attention he deserves.

And I'll admit that he does look good in a Knicks uniform. Go Knicks

Five years (and $40m) of Doc holding back Giannis from the rest of the league!

Isn't he specifically and solely at the Bucks to keep Giannis company? This dude isn't even in the NBA without Giannis, surely.

Man the Heat are dreadful. That Rozier trade euphoria sure wore off fast.
