My son and I hiked what's generally considered the toughest trail in PHX today. It's ~7 miles total with ~ 3,500 feet in elevation gain. The upper quarter of the trail (from the saddle to The Valley's only real "flat iron") is not maintained and is pretty difficult. We did the entire trail in just over 2 1/2 hours. My son is a fucking machine. He's already talking about hiking/climbing Denali.

I actually had to force him to stop and take breaks and told him he couldn't run because the trail was pretty packed and, you know, the broken arm thing. I'm guessing that if I were to just let him have at it, he'd finish in under an hour.

lets see some pics!

My son and I climbed/ran Squaw Peak in 1:42. We probably could have done it in ~1:30 if it wasn't so busy. My son had his first nasty fall, but he just dusted himself off and kept running. I've created a monster.

Took the day off from work yesterday, drove up to the Catskills and hiked up a mountain. Took this pic on top. Perfect day, amazing views.

I'm going camping this weekend for the first time in 6 years. Going to float down a river on a canoe too.

We're opening the camping/hiking season, this weekend. The weather's not really cooperating, but we don't care.

I'm in the market for a lightweight tent. 1-person is fine. How does this one look? http://www.ems.com/ems-velocity-1-tent/1307829.html

Get a 2 person. Will allow you to accommodate a friend/gf when needed. The extra space is nice anyway.

I'll take this advice. Any tips on air vs. foam sleeping pads?
