Manning's the greatest ever regardless of this outcome.
Really, 4/5? Really?
no, its still montana
this game was terrible. seattle looked like they had 3 more people on the field than denver most of the game. they just dominated every aspect of the game. tough to watch. luckily, i was drinking the entire game.

Manning's near complete lack of mobility hurts him more than is brought up. I think that lack of mobility has a lot to do with his losing record in the playoffs. As the defences get better Manning's inability to scramble becomes his achilles heel. Once it's a passing down, the defence knows it doesnt have to maintain lanes on the pass rush as Manning's not going anywhere.

Yeah. What, a one game sample against one of the six greatest defenses in NFL history changes that?
Football is a team sport.

Thanks, friend. Your first few posts were pretty funny.
I don't think I could have imagined any way that Seattle could have put up 40+ points, even with non-offensive points where everything that could have went wrong for the Broncos did. Something like a 23-3 Seahawks win would have been more probable, but not this. Still, I'd take this over not getting there in the first place, especially if it meant having the Chargers advance.
I'm so glad they got at least some points on the board, however. Otherwise, I would have noted that the Broncos somehow managed to preserve their longest non-shutout streak with Tebow at QB, but get it snapped with Peyton at QB. Gotta grasp to whatever straws you can!
Speaking of Peyton, I'm obviously not reading the NFL media for a while, but my early impression is that he is getting way too much flack for this loss. He was only 1/46th of the problem, with each active player also getting that proportion of the blame. It also takes way too much away from the Seahawks, who won it way more than Denver lost it.

lol @ one game sample.
Is that not what last night was? It was one game out of about 200 that he's played. And based on that I'm supposed to think that he is any better or worse at 10 pm last night than I thought that he was at 6 pm? Obviously, I'm not saying that last night counts equal to a 2004 game in October; it was the Super Bowl after all. But if a person believed that he was the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, or 5th best before that game, I don't see why last night would change that.
In my opinion, last night was more about Seattle reaffirming that they have one of the very best defenses in NFL history.

I don't understand, I thought Peyton was the greatest of all time regardless of last night? Now it's Montana? Huh?

Manning's not getting too much blame where I am. That was the best game I saw from Seattle's defence all year. They were fast, very physical and got great push up front. I lay the blame on the OC for not having a game plan to counter what Seattle does well and the specialty teams coach for the kick return touchdown. The whole had to be ten yards wide. I was really surprised there weren't more swing passes to the running backs to keep the defensive ends playing wide. Something similar to what Montana did with Craig all the time. Peyton's a top ten for sure and maybe a top five. People focus too much on what he does well and not enough on his glaring weakness, mobility.

no, last night was one of many games peyton manning has lost in the playoffs. i understand what you are saying, but playoff losses are the biggest stain on his great career. thats why i dont think it was just a one game sample, or why most people wont look at it like that.
seattle was just better everywhere last night. that might have been the most lopsided super bowl ive ever seen.

lol @ one game sample. i agree about the team sport idea though, qb's get too much credit and too much blame for winning super bowls.
But if we're talking about the "greatest QB who ever lived," and the captain of the "greatest offense of all time," how do you not talk about the all-mighty one's playoff record?
If you don't believe in crowning a greatest QB of all-time for the reason you cite above, then you have a valid point, but I'm pretty sure that you do have an opinion on this....

i think super bowls and playoff record play a part in a qb's legacy, but it is a team game so that kinda stuff gets totally overstated. manning didnt play well last night, but i think most of that is b/c his line was completely overmatched. should manning's legacy be tarnished b/c his o line got its ass handed to them?
