If I run 11 more miles before the end of the year I will be at 4,000 miles all time on strava (July 2017). It would also put me at 1234.6 miles for 2020.

Slowly getting back in it, a mile at a time. I used to love running in the cold but I kind of fell in love with running in heat last year before going back to work put a stop to my routine. Now that it's cold again I realize I don't love it.

Running goals this year are

500 miles
52 weeks of activity
Close all my loops on Strava
Run in five US cities
Don't worry about pace

My Boston 8s are probably nearing the end of their tenure. Perusing Adidas for more sales but the 9s aren't showing up in my size ATM. Considering going back to Brooks as well, but no good sales on there at the moment.

Awesome!

I snuck a run around the block into a trip to the grocery store today. Near sleeting rain, cold temps, lots of puddles and soaking wet socks. I didn't need the run except that it got me to five miles for the week, which is still only half what I think I can manage while still being present at home and work. Though I missed the goal this week, I learned that there are a lot of useable gaps in the day where I can get at least a 20-25 minute run in when I get the rhythm back. Success.

Lenny, how cold is it over there? It's snowing everywhere in Texas but Houston right now.

oh wow wouldn't have guessed texas would be like that right now

nice job though

the high has been around 40, give or take a few, lately...but hardly any sunshine and breezy...i wore shorts and no toboggan today...big mistake

Do you ever wear tights/leggings when you run?

i don't have any...this is the first winter i've ever ran, and really didn't even think about considering getting a pair or two

my legs would have been fine if not for the wind, i suppose...the ears and nose running were the biggest hindrances

Verb, ghost, etc.

What's up with Brooks GuideRails support system? Seems gimmicky but also kind of harmless as far as shoe technology goes? I'm looking at Ravenna 11, specifically, which seems like a good shoe despite maybe that strip of slightly ugly plastic.

We've shifted our focus beyond the feet to the most injury-prone part of a runner's body: the knees. GuideRails keep you moving comfortably by keeping excess movement in check.

I might not buy them. Then again, I might.

I told my kid today, "you never know, you might be asymptomatic"

He replied, "mom, I'm not gay"

Sounds like a fancy, trademarkable way of saying "arch support." If you need arch support in your running shoe, seems ok. If you wear a more neutral shoe, sounds like the GuideRails could be uncomfortable.

Have a pair of these on order. Trail runners with a Gore-Tex liner. If we ever get any real snow up here again, I'll be ready.
