Do it.
I think I'm gonna do a 50K trail race this fall. It's at a park a few miles from here. Four 7.5 mile loops. Only one short section is "technical." Don't tell my wife.

Sweet!
I'm enjoying watching your progression on Strava, man.
20 miles with the ruck today. High School track team cheered me on during my last few laps. It was pretty badass.
Think that will be my last training run with the ruck. My right shoulder is pretty beat up.
I did 7 ruck runs. 3 10-milers, 3 15-milers and a 20-miler.
I'll probably do 30 more miles this week, then my usual "week of race" runs the following week... 10 on Tuesday, intervals on Thursday and a shake-out on Saturday.

Once you get a decent base, you're gonna kill it.
Thanks! The Strava group has been super motivating. Even if it's basically down to 3 people.

Totally agree about the Strava group. Long live the Strava group.

Good news: Finally found the perfect shoe size and fit. Bad news: Just one run in the pair that was too tight fucked up the nail on my left big toe. Hoping it's just a bruise that will heal on its own and not something worse.
I've averaged under 9-minute miles on all my runs with the ruck, which puts me under the course record for my race.
I'm 44 and will likely never have a shot at a CR again, but it could be in the 80s on race day, which puts me in decent danger of blowing up if I push too hard.
Should I go out conservative (and still having a decent shot at the win) at a 10:00 pace or go balls out and go for the CR?
Made the decision on this morning's run to do the compression underwear/board shorts combo for my race instead of wearing the traditional running shorts. It's just super comfortable to me.
2 more runs in this cycle, then it's up to Northern AZ after my race for some altitude training for my ultra.
Also, yeah, I've decided to go balls out for the ruck race.
