20-mile run with the 35-pound ruck tomorrow. 3 ruck runs left in this training cycle.

I only did 15, but managed to keep a 8:30 pace.

Kinda backed myself into a corner now. Only really have 5 days to get in a 20-miler or I'll start eating into my taper window.

Their technique is so bad that it completely cancels out their attractiveness for me.

Neither one of them is attractive.

Do you have to wear that thing during the race? Don't the straps tear up your shoulders?

Yes, I'm wearing it during the race. I'm in the "Heavy" division, which requires a 35-pound pack.

I currently have bruises on my shoulders, but my old pack put bruises and pressure on my clavicle, which is more bony and hurts WAAAAAY more.

My new pack is a more vertical, "frame"-style ruck. It sits higher on the back and requires more balancing, but puts less pressure on the body.

I'm really looking forward to the race.

I'm not a patriotic kind of guy, but seeing those Bataan Death March survivors before the race really does something to me.

I'm almost happy to suffer afterwards.

Meh. I really hate the Jersey girl look she has.

Also, her body looks pretty soft compared to girls I've seen grappling at the BJJ gym I go to occasionally.

I know this is breaking shtick but a girl who is too lean runs the risk of reminding me of a 16 year old boy.

Oh, I wasn't trying to say that she's fat.

Just that her body wouldn't lend me to think she actually does much grappling.

Another 15 with the pack today. Then forced myself to do another 20 minutes of stadium steps.

Grueling. Legs were still pretty wasted from yesterday and I had far too much beer last night.

Gonna have to do 20 with the pack on Tuesday or Wednesday after work now. Ugh!

That's gonna be miserable AF.

I wish I could just snap my fingers and have all my shoe problems solved forever.

Regular fit is way too narrow.

4E is a little too wide but feels great up to about 90 minutes, after that I get nasty blisters on the inside edge of both feet.

2E is a little snug but at least solves one blister problem. Unfortunately it creates another by rubbing my pinky toe raw.

Going up a half size might help. I feel like the very patient owner of the new specialty running shop is going to go soup nazi on me if I bring back one more gently used pair.

Yeah, go up a half size and make sure you are NOT wearing cotton socks.

I can't recommend Swiftwick enough.

https://smile.amazon.com/Swiftwick-ASPI ... =Swiftwick

I know $12 to $17 sounds ridiculous for a pair of socks, but shitting the bed during a race because you got blisters from buying socks that were $5 for a pack of 12 doesn't really make sense considering the effort you put into training and the money you spent on shoes and race registration.

I'm obviously not sure what kind of socks you run in, but a lot of people do run in $120 shoes but the cheapest socks they can find.

Yeah Swiftwick is all I wear with my Bostons and I almost never get blisters.

Haven't tried Swiftkicks yet but I pretty much exclusively wear Balega blister-resistant socks. I'm 99% sure it's a shoe problem, but if going up half a size doesn't fix it I might try some different socks. I've heard good things about Darn Tough, too.
