That explains so much. I was seriously scratching my head over who else is active in this thread from AZ.

Got caught in a monsoon storm.

Started at the trail head and it was 100+ degrees with clouds creeping in.

15 minutes later it dropped like 25 degrees, wind picked up to 35+ MPH and the sky lit up with crazy colors.

Rain started and it darkened. It turned menacing. Lightening everywhere. Huge rain drops that stung the skin.

Jumped over a gigantic desert tortoise. Saw a couple of pygmy owls huddled in their saguaro nests.

It was like the storm brought everything to life.

I wasn't running fast, I was just having fun. Splashing in mud puddles. Leaping over boulders. Feeling the grit in my teeth.

Living in the moment.

I've never been caught is pouring rain. I usually manage to find cover when it rains as I avoid rural running if it looks stormy.

I was pretty slow today. I starting taking a new medication Tuesday. Maybe I just need to get used to it.

No joke '2death, what you described is something I aspire to when I lace up. I'm not training for a race and I'm not trying to beat my times. Those things will naturally come. What I absolutely want to be able to do, though, is run for long periods of time. Everything you described and what I hear from others tell me that it's in those long distances that you find something...dare I say...spiritual.

Ugh.

Followed up that "inspired" run with a miserable one today. Too many beers last night. Got out late today. Already 100+ degrees.

Spoiler: show

Getting out later than you're used to is the worst, I've noticed. Must be double bad news when you're training and know you have to get the run in no matter what.

Also, my Mizunos split yesterday.

They are my third pair of Ekidens to split in the same spot after ~200 miles.

I guess I'm gonna have to find another shoe.

May finally try some Merrells.
