Is there a disadvantage to running on minimalist shoes over city streets? I see some TSLAs on Amazon that look good for less than $30.
I missed this post.
Nothing to worry about. Most minimalist shoes are gonna offer enough protection to stop a random piece of glass or something.
I know someone who swears by those TSLAs. They are basically clones of Merrell's trail running shoes.
I went with a pair of Brooks with 10mm drops instead. As I ease back into a running routine, comfort is more important to me than anything else. Anything to make this jump start more enjoyable.
I’m still interested in shedding some shoe over time, but baby steps...
I’m re-reading Born to Run, btw. I swear this isn’t some New Years resolution bullshit.

A friend of a good friend just moved to Phoenix and he’s an ultra runner. Between you, Rob and him, I see more of Phoenix trails on Strava than I do Houston routes.

Signing up for this (10k component, obviously) will give me a realistic challenge and a reasonable amount of time to meet it with consistent training. Flat course in a lush, gator filled swamp when the weather isn’t too hot yet? Hell yeah!

I’ve visited that park a couple of times and it turns out that gators are surprisingly indifferent to humans. It’s definitely freaky to be walking a trail along the water and hear the deep, low growl they make then look down to see one twenty feet ahead of you, though.

I've always thought of myself as a fan of C25k and the Galloway method, but that doesn't seem to have done me much good in the past. I end up focusing too much on the timing of the increments, begging the stopwatch for a walk segment, and mentally taking myself out of even the shortest jogs.
This time, I've built a training schedule for myself that sounds doable, but it won't start for another three weeks. When the schedule finally starts, it's 8 weeks of incrementally building up my distance and my continuous run time leading up to this race.
I don't really know what I should be doing in the three weeks leading up the the start of the schedule. I should probably just get used to running again. Maybe like 5 miles a week? See where it takes me? Probably shouldn't overthink it any more than that.

I don't know what to make of the Zoom Flys.
They are incredibly stiff, but not necessarily uncomfortable. It's almost impossible to heel-strike in them because of the carbon plate AND 10MM drop.
If feel like I need to do a long run in them to fairly judge them, but my initial impression is that they are designed for people with perfect form.
Bostons and Adios reward you for heel-striking by putting a bunch of Boost material in the heel, but you only seem to get the benefit of the Nike carbon plate if you keep perfect form.
Hip is a little sore today. Pretty bummed, that easy 3 I logged last night was not supposed to aggravate at all. Knee tightness did not reappear though, so there is that.
