Big day for US women's running in Houston.
Keira D'Amato set new US women's marathon record. 2:19:36 Sara Hall set new US women's half marathon record 1:07:15
My family went and saw some finishers cross the line. My parents were volunteering but the place was so crowded we never could find them. I didn't know anyone in the race this year, but seeing all the runners I felt like I was with my people. Really got me pumped for race day in a couple of months.

Guys, I'll go ahead and say it. I'm tired of all of these carbon plated shoes hogging all the review space. I've never run in them, but the entry level price point feels too steep for them to occupy all the real estate in the influencer world. I guess that's the biz. Makes me never want to buy a carbon shoe on principle.

Seem to have hit the stage of depression where somehow running seems appealing, so...running shoe recs? Especially for folks with low arches.

Shoes are a pretty personal thing, so getting fitted at a store where they can analyze your gait etc is going to give you the best idea of what you'll love, but I'd start by looking at reviews for stability shoes. Good jumping off points for arch support I'd guess would be Brooks Glycerine, ASICS Gel Kayano or Saucony Guide but I'm no expert. It's taken me a few years to find what I love. The ones I listed are all proven shoe companies and those are all long running iterations of shoe models.
Best shoe review websites out there IMO are:
https://www.believeintherun.com/ Love these guys. Their reviews can get kind of pitchfork-y at times, but it's so much more fun to read than your standard shoe reviews. Their podcast and instagram feed are both fantastic as well.
https://www.runningwarehouse.com/ I buy most of my shoes from here and they do great youtube reviews. Reviews on the website are good too.
Go crazy. If you can learn to love running, you'll have found a nice little slice of peace for your weekly turmoils, whatever they may be. The right shoes absolutely make a difference but don't let anyone tell you that you need to spend a fortune. Last year's model is always discounted and the yearly upgrades are *usually* just marketing ploys.

I have an old pair of ASICS GT-1000s that worked pretty well the last time I convinced myself that running would help.

They were my regular gym/exercise shoe, and I was working out probably 3-4 times a week from January to April of 2018, when I sprained my ankle. That summer, they became my moving/dogwalk shoe, probably used once a day in winter and three times a day in summer from, say, August of 2018 to fall of this year. Routine potty-break walk is 2/10 mile, longer walks average between 0.5 to 3 miles. Does that help?

I mean there's really no question that the shoes need to go, just by visual analysis alone.
