They are the worst.

I like how only shortstops get credit for defensive value. Vizquel was an excellent defender who couldn't hit. Meanwhile, Jones was basically Vizquel with an above average bat and Rolen was Vizquel with an excellent bat. So of course Vizquel is the only one to get any kind of support.

Also, Larry Walker is still a no doubt Hall of Famer.

10 strait gold glove Center Field seasons for Andruw Jones, he made it look easy.... 7.5% of the vote.

There are legit arguments against him. Games played being one of them.

Meh. Plenty of Hall of Famers have played fewer. He's basically a better version of Guerrero with one season less.

How do you vote for Vizquel but not Andruw Jones?

to play devil's advocate though, gold gloves aren't exactly the gold standard (see what i did there) in terms of defense (see: derek jeter)

Definitely not, but if the stats back them up, it's probably fair to use them as an argument.

I guess I could go find zone rating or whatever but I'm not really sure what would truely quantify a hall of fame defensive career in center field. , he was never the most deserving batter, not better than average. How many voters use actual scientific criteria anyway? As defensive center fielders go, for 10 years he was freaking amazing in center field. I doubt he ever makes it in anyway. It took forever for the Braves to put him in their Hall of Fame.

Is there a block chain standard in Baseball now?

Advanced stats are limited the farther back you go, but, by Fangraphs, Vizquel is among the Top 10ish defensive SS of all time and Jones is by FAR the best defensive CF ever.

Most voters don't use scientific criteria at all. They follow their hearts and then look up whatever stats are needed to support their decision so they can pretend they actually used stats to determine who was worthy.

No. He would be if he had been better at baseball, though.

Yeah, but the discrepancy between their vote totals is insane.

Yeah, but the discrepancy between their vote totals is insane.

The save stat has ruined relief pitching.

don’t get me started on the concept of “closer” being it’s own separate position like some managers (I’m looking at you Brad Ausmus) treat it

And, most likely something else brewing. They have, Braun, Cain, Yelich, Broxton, Santana, and Phillips all in the OF now...
and picking up 2 top level OF's has to look good to some of those SP's out there that the Brewers are supposedly making offers to as well.

60 some odd days to opening day!
