The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
that tade makes it look like the cubs gave up way too much for quintana
They got him earlier though and Quintana is probably better?
I think part of that payment was due to need. Some of the market for starting pitching may not heat up until the winter. There's a lot of young talent I think that's potentially available that isn't going to so much help in a pennant race. So many teams are "close" there weren't many willing trade partners.
The A's I guess were just going to trade Gray, and the other teams in the market for him weren't willing to deal.
2011 draft pick still cheap and so promising, it must really suck to be an A's fan.

I would take Gray anyday over Quintana. But you are going to pay more for jumping on a player early. And yeah, if I was the Astros id have gone all in. You never know whats going to happen, I never thought the Brewers were only going to make 2 playoff runs with their core that started in 2008 with the CC trade.

So apparently theres a independent league team called the Kansas Stars, that is loaded, with ex-mlb Allstars? Including a pitching rotation of Roger Clemens, Ben Sheets, Tim Hudson, Josh Beckett, Roy Halladay and Roy Oswalt? That's a hell of a pitching staff (even if most of those guys have arms that have fallen off a few times)

I'd love to see a former major leaguers softball league

Be fun to see in the off season? Ive always wished the allstar softball game would drop the celebs and just be the old players.
What if we had a HR hitter like Stanton playing 81 games in Colorado... that would be fun..
remember when barry bonds set the mlb record for most intentional walks in 2004? that kind of sucked as a fan.
That's true, but Barry didn't strike out much either, there wasn't much opportunity to beat him by pitching to him. What we have now are a bunch of Adam Dunn style players. (better obviously but the same kind of plate approach)

oh for sure. and for the record, before someone jumps down my throat, i was in no way suggesting that stanton is even remotely as good as barry was.
