Conor McGregor Signs 'Record-Breaking Deal' to Fight Floyd Mayweather
Getting UFC champ to sign was considered the easy part. Dealing with boxing legend is an entirely different story

Image

By Mike Bohn

Roughly one year ago Conor McGregor first made serious mention of a potential boxing mega fight with Floyd Mayweather. Fast forward 12 months, and the UFC Lightweight champion has agreed to terms on his side of the fight.

Some people think it's a publicity stunt that won't happen, some think it could take place soon and be the richest fight ever
McGregor has actively pursued a matchup with Mayweather (who has a 49-0 record in boxing) over the past year. Business really picked up follow his title-winning knockout of Eddie Alvarez at UFC 205 last November, an accomplishment which made "The Notorious" the first simultaneous two-division titleholder in company history.

Considering McGregor has zero professional boxing experience, the idea of a matchup with Mayweather was widely taken as fantasy. Each day it appears to take steps closer to reality, though, and on Wednesday another significant hurdle was cleared.

McGregor's promoter, UFC President Dana White, appeared on Inside the NBA on TNT following the Game 1 blowout by the Cleveland Cavaliers over the Boston Celtics in the Eastern Conference finals, and revealed an agreement for McGregor's half to the fight was complete.

"The McGregor side is done," White said. "I’m starting to work on the Mayweather side now."

Although the specifics of the deal were not revealed, McGregor subsequently confirmed White's comments in a statement released on his personal website, TheMacLife.com.

"It is an honor to sign this record-breaking deal alongside my partners Zuffa LLC, The Ultimate Fighting Championship and Paradigm Sports Management," McGregor said. "The first, and most important part of this historic contract, has now officially been signed off on. Congratulations to all parties involved. We now await (Mayweather adviser) Al Haymon and his boxer's signature in the coming days."

Despite the significance, McGregor putting pen to paper for a clash with Mayweather would have to be considered the easy part of negotiations. Dealing with Mayweather is an entirely different story, and it's impossible to predict how talks with "Money" will realistically unfold.

Mayweather's pickiness over specific details in regard to his fights has been a famous part of his approach. He wants a piece of all revenue, from concession sales to closed-circuit viewing. Moreover, Mayweather will almost certainly want a large influence on details from fight weight to venue to glove size and more.

Whether all those aspects can be ironed out will be determined once White begins talks with Team Mayweather. The fight was apparently originally targeted for September 16, but once another marquee boxing matchup between Canelo Alvarez and Gennady Golovkin was announced for that date, White said plans were scrapped.

From an optimist's perspective the fight between McGregor and Mayweather could be viewed as 50 percent done. White said he's not ready to make any guarantees yet, though, because the next 50 percent is where the real challenges rest, "I'm not saying the fight will happen," White said. "I got one side done; now it's time to work on the other. If we can come to a deal with Haymon and Mayweather, the fight's going to happen."

**The Bellator 179 card took place from the SSE Arena on Friday in London, England. They announced the attendance at 11,872 and a gate of $1,087,200 in U.S. dollars. Below are the main card results:
*Kevin Ferguson Jr. def. DJ Griffin by TKO at 3:40 of Round 1 – This was only the second pro fight of Ferguson Jr.’s career and was fighting on Spike TV. Griffin is a 2-2 fighter and is level of opponent that was right for Ferguson Jr. to be facing and looked good with his hands and stopped him in the first round.
*Alex Lohore def. Dan Edwards by TKO at 0:56 of Round 2 – Lohore was controlled on the ground in the first but rebounded and ended the fight quickly in the second. Lohore brought his mother into the cage for his post-fight interview to thank her.
*Cheick Kongo def. August Sakai by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – The crowd didn’t enjoy this, Kongo has won five in a row but is not a friendly style to watch.
*Linton Vassell def. Liam McGeary by arm-triangle choke at 2:28 of Round 3 – This was a really tough loss for McGeary, who was taken down repeatedly and Vassell was very good working on top and eventually submitting McGeary in the third. Given the limitations that McGeary has and being prone to takedowns, he is going to struggle against the top end of this division with Phil Davis (who he was dominated by), Ryan Bader and Muhammed Lawal all at the top of the division and now Vassell beating him.
*Rory MacDonald def. Paul Daley by rear-naked choke at 1:45 of Round 2 – MacDonald dominated the fight, he took down Daley in the first and worked in his guard and constantly working to pass. In the second, he got him down again and worked to the back before securing the choke. MacDonald also landed a nice head kick during the fight. MacDonald will now challenge the winner of Douglas Lima vs. Lorenz Larkin for the welterweight title.

**Bellator’s next card is not until June 24th, which is the biggest undertaking in the promotion’s history as they will run their second-ever pay-per-view with a 8-10pm portion on Spike and the PPV taking place from Madison Square Garden. The card will be headlined by Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva and feature three title fights with Lima vs. Larkin for the welterweight title, Michael Chandler vs. Brent Primus for the lightweight and on Spike, they will have Phil Davis vs. Ryan Bader for the light heavyweight title. The pay-per-view will also feature Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione.

**Floyd Mayweather Jr. spoke to members of the media on Saturday about the negotiations to fight Conor McGregor and that if he does fight again it would “90% be against Conor McGregor”.

**Georges St-Pierre was a guest on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani on recently and confirmed that he is dealing with an eye injury and recovering from a procedure he had done. St-Pierre stated that he informed the UFC of the eye problem prior to the press conference they held to announce the Michael Bisping fight and that St-Pierre isn’t able to fight until after November 1st. There was a lot of pressure put on St-Pierre to fight earlier as the UFC was targeting July 8th for the fight between the two and led to the middleweight division being put on hold and eventually adding an interim title for Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker to fight for on July 8th at UFC 213. St-Pierre also said in the interview that if he comes back and loses that he will hang it up for good and never fight again. St-Pierre added his vision has completely returned to 100% and has been told by his doctor to avoid sparring until September.

**ABC has announced a return of the “Battle of the Network Stars” show, which will feature television stars from various networks on opposite teams and taking part in various challenges. The team captains will be Ronda Rousey for one squad and NFL player DeMarcus Ware as the other captain. The series is set to begin on Thursday June 29th at 9pm Eastern.

**The UFC has announced Jimi Manuwa will fight Volkan Oezdemir on July 29th at UFC 214. The fight was announced just days after Oezdemir’s huge 0:28 victory over Misha Cirkunov from this past Sunday in Sweden. The light heavyweight bout will be placed on the same card as the rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones for the light heavyweight title.

**UFC president Dana White was a guest on the UFC Unfiltered podcast with Matt Serra and Ray Longo and stated that Cris “Cyborg” Justino will be fighting on the UFC 214 card on July 29th but doesn’t have an opponent to announce yet. UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie is not expected to fight Justino after her manager recently commented that de Randamie isn’t willing to fight her because of her past drug test problems and calling her a “cheater”.

White also noted in the interview that flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson doesn’t get to choose his fights and the UFC is pushing forward for Johnson to fight T.J. Dillashaw in August in Seattle. White added this is the first fight that Johnson is figured into the backend of the pay-per-view and he should want the Dillashaw fight as it will be bigger on pay-per-view than fighting Ray Borg. While the Johnson vs. Dillashaw is certainly the more interesting fight, it’s hard to imagine that fight doing much more than 200,000 buys on pay-per-view. White added that the Seattle pay-per-view is scheduled for Saturday August 19th and would be going head-to-head with the NXT Takeover card from Brooklyn the night before SummerSlam.

White also reiterated that the Michael Bisping vs. Georges St-Pierre fight is not happening and that Bisping will fight near the end of the year or early 2018. He said that if St-Pierre wants to return then he can fight at welterweight. To say the three parties are on different pages would be an understatement given that Bisping and St-Pierre have both stated publically that they want the fight with one another. St-Pierre said on the MMA Hour this past week that he isn’t cleared to spar until September due to an eye injury he had surgery for and cannot fight until after November 1st.

**Demetrious Johnson is very upset with the UFC and has posted a lengthy statement about his recent treatment by the organization. Johnson stated he has never been given points on past pay-per-view events and that his upcoming fight will be the only one where the UFC is offering points, after the next fight he says he will not get points on any future pay-per-view cards. Johnson says he was originally offered a fight with Roy Borg and Johnson countered that Sergio Pettis was a more marketable name to fight but the UFC was adamant on Borg and Johnson ended up agreeing to the fight. The next issue was when Cody Garbrandt suffered his back injury and left T.J. Dillashaw without a fight and Dillashaw expressed interest in going down to fight Johnson for the flyweight title. Johnson disagreed with this option and felt he had agreed to fight Borg and that Dillashaw should win a fight at flyweight and prove he can make the weight before receiving a title fight. Johnson went on to outline an angry exchange between Dana White and himself where White went so far as to threaten scrapping the flyweight division if he didn’t take the Dillashaw fight.

Johnson was also very critical in how he has been marketed and the was the division as a whole has been sold with the exception of last year’s season of TUF dedicated to the flyweights. Johnson said he spoke with matchmaker Sean Shelby, who directly told Johnson that “smaller fighters don’t sell” and Shelby didn’t believe that a fight between Johnson and Cody Garbrandt (who Johnson does want to fight) is a sellable fight. Johnson’s argument is that he was forced to take the fight with Ray Borg and Borg agreed and now the UFC is bullying him in public to take the Dillashaw fight instead.

**Lance Pugmire at the L.A. Times reported on Thursday that talks are underway between the sides of Floyd Mayweather Jr. (through his manager Al Haymon) and WME-IMG for the fight with Conor McGregor being targeted for “early fall”. In the report, Pugmire spoke with an unnamed official, who said that UFC president Dana White is not involved in the talks, which White has since come out and contradicted to TMZ. White told the outlet “Trust me, I’m running the Mayweather, McGregor deal” and that “we live in a world where you read”.

IT'S ON: Floyd Mayweather-Conor McGregor fight agreed for 26 August
Image

Wednesday 14 June 2017 20.29 BST Last modified on Thursday 15 June 2017 01.17 BST

The long-touted fight between UFC star Conor McGregor and the former five-division boxing champion Floyd Mayweather is set for 26 August. The two fighters confirmed the news with posts to social media. On Instagram, Mayweather said: “It’s official!”. McGregor was similarly to the point: “THE FIGHT IS ON,” he wrote on Twitter. As a barb, the 28-year-old Irishman added a picture of Mayweather’s father, Floyd Sr, a presumed joke at the expense of his 40-year-old rival’s age.

Earlier on Tuesday, the Nevada Athletic Commission approved a request from Mayweather Promotions to host a fight at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas on 26 August.

Terms for the event have not been confirmed but the August date had been talked about as a fight between Mayweather and McGregor for some time. When the two meet it will be a boxing rather than mixed martial arts match-up. McGregor has already applied for a boxing license in Nevada, although he has never boxed professionally. Mayweather retired undefeated in 49 professional fights, and is widely recognized as one of the greatest boxers of all time. Mayweather is a huge favourite: early Las Vegas odds had him at 1-10 to win the fight with McGregor 7-1.

Bob Bennett, the executive director of the Nevada Athletic Commission, confirmed to ESPN on Wednesday that Mayweather Promotions had pulled out of a request for the fight before reapplying. “I got a call [on Tuesday night] from Mayweather Promotions that they wanted to be put back on the agenda, so I put them back on the agenda,” Bennett told the broadcaster. “They pulled the request but then decided to put it back on.”

Both men stand to make tens of millions of dollars from the bout, which will be more about making money than treating the public to a display of athletic skill. It would also prove a lucrative platform for Mayweather’s stable of fighters. The former champion has said he would like two of the fighters he promotes, Badou Jack and the talented junior lightweight world champion Gervonta Davis, to appear on the undercard. Mayweather made around $250m from his fight against Manny Pacquiao in 2015, and would expect to draw a similar sum for the McGregor fight. The Irishman is likely to make less but any earnings would outstrip anything he has made during his UFC career.

There has been no shortage of critics of the fight between UFC’s biggest star and a 40-year-old who hasn’t fought since September 2015. Last month Mayweather’s former rival in the ring, Oscar De La Hoya, said the fight would harm boxing.

“With each passing day, it looks more and more likely that the circus known as Floyd Mayweather v Conor McGregor will be coming to town in the near future,” said De La Hoya. “As undercard fights start to take form, athletic commissions give their blessings in exchange for millions of dollars, and the fighters start counting even more cash, one group will eventually be left to make sure this farce doesn’t occur – we, the fans, who are the lifeblood of our sport ... Our sport might not ever recover.”

**Bellator held their biggest card in their history on Saturday night from Madison Square Garden and was the second pay-per-view in the promotion’s history. Within the MMA space, there was a lot of buzz for this show and it dominated the news cycle throughout the week and that comes as the UFC is also holding a card tonight in Oklahoma City. The Bellator show certainly had the bigger marquee attractions and they were running their biggest show ever while this is just another UFC Fight Night card. The event was a mixed bag as it had a lot of interesting moments without any classic fights. As with all of Bellator’s major events, it felt like a big deal and their production was top notch and gave off the impression of a major event of significance for the company. Below are the results from Saturday night:
*Hugh McKenna def. John Salgado by kimura at 4:06 of Round 1
*Matt Rizzo def. Sergio da Silva by arm-triangle choke at 3:48 of Round 3
*Anthony Giacchina def. Jerome Mickle by rear-naked choke at 3:40 of Round 3
*Bradley Desir def. Nate Grebb by KO at 2:54 of Round 1 – highlights of this fight aired on Spike TV later in the evening
*Ryan Couture def. Haim Gozali by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27)
*Heather Hardy def. Alice Yauger by TKO at 4:47 of Round 3 – this was the best fight on the show and featured a big finish from Hardy, who was busted open from a head butt and stormed back to stop Yauger standing with strikes.
*James Gallagher def. Chinzo Machida by rear-naked choke at 3:40 of Round 3 – Gallagher looked great and he is only 20 years old with enormous upside as a fighter and personality.
*Ryan Bader def. Phil Davis by split decision (49-46, 47-48, 49-46) to win the Bellator light heavyweight title – It wasn't as bad as their first fight but it wasn’t one for the highlight reels. The first two rounds were razor close and Round 3 was definitely Bader’s round and Rounds 4 and 5 belonged to Davis. It could have gone either way based on the close rounds at the beginning.
*Douglas Lima def. Lorenz Larkin by unanimous decision (50-45, 48-47, 48-47) to retain the Bellator welterweight title The first round was extremely close that you could make an argument that Larkin won three rounds, but few believed he did. This wasn’t the fight people expected and Larkin didn’t perform at the level of his last few fights in the UFC. Both guys were tentative but Lima got off the better strikes and Larkin tried to confuse him by switching stances, which Lima admitted did throw him during the fight. The likely fight is Lima vs. Rory MacDonald for the title next.
*Zach Freeman def. Aaron Pico by guillotine at 0:24 of Round 1 – This was a huge upset although the promotion and hype surrounding Pico was hitting ridiculous levels over the past few days and even on the Spike pre-show when the broadcasters were talking about his unlimited upside. Pico was rocked with a shot and Freeman immediately locked on the submission and got the win. Pico is an extremely talented wrestler and athlete and is only 20 years old, the loss could actually be a good thing as expectations will be more realistic next time.
*Brent Primus def. Michael Chandler by TKO (due to injury) at 2:22 of Round 1 to win the Bellator lightweight title – Primus attacked the leg of Chandler and Chandler’s ankle was dead. Chandler tried to shake it off but it was clear he couldn’t put weight on it and it looked horrifying as he tried to fight through the injury. Referee Todd Anderson stepped in to call a time out and the fight was called off with Chandler furious as lost his title in the worst possible way. There is no doubt that the rematch should be immediately booked and from a promotional standpoint you took a fight where no one knew the challenger and now you have a great story for the rematch with Chandler fighting to get his title back. Hopefully the injury isn’t too serious to Chandler as his ankle seemed in very bad shape although he was standing on it for his post-fight interview with Jimmy Smith in the cage.
*Matt Mitrione def. Fedor Emelianenko by KO at 1:14 of Round 1 – This was as crazy a 1:14 fight as you will see. Both landed simultaneously and we had a double knockdown but Emelianenko did not recover and Mitrione did. Mitrione got on top and blasted Emelianenko with strikes for the stoppage. After the fight, Mitrione promoted the GoFundMe account set up for the family of the late Tim Hague and it resulted in several thousand dollars being raised and that was really cool of him to do.
*Neiman Gracie def. Dave Marfone by rear-naked choke at 2:27 of Round 2 – They were the swing bout and ended up in this spot on the card. Gracie won the first round, although Marfone applied a guillotine at the end of the round. In Round 2, Gracie got his back and Marfone tried to flip him over but just landed in a worse position and was submitted.
*Chael Sonnen def. Wanderlei Silva by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) – Silva had no answers for Sonnen’s takedown and every time Sonnen was in any risk of being hit he was able to secure the takedown and Silva’s back was one with the canvas. Silva did rock Sonnen twice in the fight and if he had a bit of defence for the takedowns, many say Silva would have caught him and stopped him. After the fight, Sonnen challenged Fedor Emelianenko. This concluded a wild show but one that you can’t complain about not getting your money’s worth.

**The UFC is up tonight with a Fight Night card from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and airing on free television. The main event features two solid lightweight fighters on the rise and produced a lot of added interest after their pull apart at the Dallas press conference in May. The other news item going into the card is that Johny Hendricks got sick during the week and missed weight yet again, this time at middleweight and came in at 188 pounds on Saturday and was deducted 20% of his purse. It is the third time he has missed weight (his body shut down ahead of his fight with Tyron Woodley in October 2015 and never made it onto the scale). Below is the card for tonight:

MAIN CARD (9pm Eastern on FS 1, TSN 5 in Canada)
*Michael Chiesa vs. Kevin Lee
*Johny Hendricks vs. Tim Boestch
*Felice Herrig vs. Justine Kish
*Dominick Reyes vs. Joachim Christensen
*Tim Means vs. Alex Garcia
*BJ Penn vs. Dennis Siver

PRELIMINARY FIGHTS (7pm on FS 2, Fight Network in Canada)
*Clay Guida vs. Erik Koch
*Vitor Miranda vs. Marvin Vettori
*Maryna Moroz vs. Carla Esparza
*Devin Powell vs. Darrell Horcher

FIGHT PASS CARD (5:30pm Eastern)
*Jared Gordon vs. Michel Quinones – Gordon missed weight by three pounds and was also deducted 20% of his purse
*Tony Martin vs. Johnny Case
*Jeremy Kimball vs. Josh Stansbury

**Bellator has announced a card for September 23rd at the SAP Center in San Jose, California and will be headlined by Benson Henderson taking on Patricky “Pitbull” Freire. The card will also feature the Bellator debut of Roy Nelson and he will take on Javy Ayala.

* * This past Wednesday’s episode of Ultimate Fighter set another record high for this season with 456,000 viewers on FS 1. This tops the previous high set last week of 442,000 viewers, which I credited somewhat to the show falling on the day of the big Mayweather vs. McGregor announcement and the coverage on UFC Tonight earlier. This week shows that it wasn’t a fluke last week and the season has found an audience and also featured two notable names fighting this week in James Krause and Ramsey Nijem, which was a high quality fight for TUF. There are two-weeks remaining in the season with the finals set for the July 7th Finale card in Las Vegas during International Fight Week.

**TMZ was the first to report that Nate Diaz’s former management group, The Ballengee Group is suing the fighter over failure to pay the agency for their services. Diaz worked with the agency for two-years before Diaz left the group last July after the terms were already settled for his rematch with Conor McGregor, which reportedly set the UFC’s record for pay-per-view buys at UFC 202. The group is seeking $1 million in the suit and also lists fighter Leslie Smith and attorney Sam Awad as defendants. The lawsuit alleges that Awad worked to get Diaz and Smith to fire the Ballengee group without paying them for their services. MMA Fighting has obtained the documents and has a story on their site with details as well.

**The Las Vegas Review Journal reported that Tecia Torres is taking the spot of Amanda Ribas on the TUF 25 Finale card on Friday July 7th against Juliana Lima. Ribas was flagged for a potential USADA violation and removed from the card. Torres last fought in February and defeated Bec Rawlings by unanimous decision.

**The UFC Fight Night card from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma on Sunday drew an announced crowd of 7,605 and a gate of $549,302 to the Chesapeake Energy Arena. For the final show before International Fight Week, there wasn't a lot of promotion for the shows coming up in two-weeks outside of graphics plugging that they were happening and a plug for the Hall of Fame inductees this year. There was not a lot of buzz going into this show as the main event had some intrigue with the Dallas press conference brawl. BJ Penn felt like a non-entity on the show, he wasn’t pushed hard and being in the opener of the main card just felt strange. Below are the results:
*Jeremy Kimball def. Josh Stansbury by TKO at 1:21 of Round 1 – Kimball landed this strange side punch to the face that dropped Stansbury and Kimball called it “the grizzly”.
*Tony Martin def. Johnny Case by unanimous decision (29-28 all) – This was the best fight on the show. Case won the first round and Martin came back to win the second and third rounds with a great jab throughout and effective striking.
*Jared Gordon def. Michel Quinones by TKO at 4:24 of Round 2 – Gordon was attacking with right hands and got a takedown in the second and finished with hammer fists. Gordon missed weight for this fight by three pounds and was deducted 20% of his purse.
*Darrell Horcher def. Devin Powell by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Carla Esparza def. Maryna Moroz by unanimous decision (30-27 all) – The fight was very similar to Chael Sonnen’s win over Wanderlei Silva as Esparza won the fight with her takedowns that Moroz could not stop.
*Marvin Vettori def. Vitor Miranda by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Clay Guida def. Erik Koch by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-26, 29-28) – This was Guida’s first lightweight since the Gray Maynard fight in 2012 and Guida looked excellent back at lightweight. Guida was too strong and he powered Koch to the mat with his takedowns with unbelievable top pressure. He dominated the second and third rounds.
*Dennis Siver def. BJ Penn by majority decision (29-27, 28-28, 29-28) – It is really hard to justify Penn winning two rounds as one judge did. Siver easily won the first. Penn had a strong round in the second by knocking down Siver and then riding out the round in side control. The third round was brutal as Siver lit up Penn with strikes and he had no answer or defence for the strikes.
*Tim Means def. Alex Garcia by unanimous decision (29-28 all) – Means won the second and third rounds.
*Dominick Reyes def. Joachim Christensen by TKO at 0:29 of Round 1 – The prospects at light heavyweight continue to emerge with Reyes making his debut and blasting Christensen with a combination and following a head kick and brutal left hand to drop him. Reyes has only been fighting for 2 ½ years and only been out of the first round once so you always have to proceed with caution when a fighter has a record like that but Reyes looked as good as he could here.
*Felice Herrig def. Justine Kish by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 29-27) – Herrig dominated this fight with her takedowns and out grappled her all fight long by taking the back and controlling Kish. Herrig had a deep choke locked in that Kish somehow escaped. I had Herrig winning 30-26 and has won three straight fights.
*Tim Boetsch def. Johny Hendricks by TKO at 0:46 of Round 2 – Hendricks is already small for middleweight and he was fighting a guy that can easily fight at light heavyweight. Boetsch out struck him in the first round and nailed him with a head kick early in the second, which set up the fight ending strikes with Boestch blasting him with short uppercuts and Hendricks went down and covered up.
*Kevin Lee def. Michael Chiesa by rear-naked choke at 4:37 of Round 1 – This was a disappointing finish for the most anticipated fight on the card. Lee got his back and was working for a choke and finally secured it but referee Mario Yamasaki called for the stoppage before Chiesa tapped and Chiesa was furious. It’s unfortunate because people are not going to give Lee credit for the win even though he was winning the round and may have been seconds away from Chiesa going out.

**There was no Fight of the Night bonus handed out but they have performance bonuses to Kevin Lee, Tim Boestch, Dominick Reyes and Jeremy Kimball for $50,000 each.

**Michael Chiesa is furious about Mario Yamasaki’s stoppage and doesn’t feel he should ever officiate again:

**As expected, Derrick Lewis doesn’t appear to be retiring after all. After his loss to Mark Hunt earlier this month, Lewis stated that it was “probably” his last fight but appeared on The MMA Hour with Ariel Helwani and said he wants to fight again by November and cited Francis Ngannou as an opponent he would like to fight. Lewis did note he went into the fight with a recurring back problem and will be having a MRI to try and find out what the issue is and if it requires surgery.

**Michael Chandler was also on The MMA Hour on Monday and stated he did not have a broken leg or ankle following Saturday’s night loss to Brent Primus at Madison Square Garden. Chandler said he believes it was nerve damage he suffered by rolling his ankle in horrible fashion but avoided serious injury despite the officials calling off the fight. Chandler has been told that his ankle should be 100% within two-weeks and the rematch looks be the only possible fight to make for both coming out the bizarre finish, which resulted in Primus winning the Bellator lightweight title. They would be wise to build this fight as a main event in Chandler’s home of St. Louis and build it up as a significant title fight. The biggest problem they had for this fight was no one knew who Primus was and now there is a story and a great hook for a rematch with Chandler, who is one of the most exciting fighters in the sport.

**ESPN’s Darren Rovell reports that the title sponsorship opportunity for the August 26th bout between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Conor McGregor will cost the sponsor $10 million to acquire. This figure is nearly double the previous record set for the Mayweather, Jr. vs. Manny Pacquiao fight in May 2015, which cost beer company Tecate $5.6 million for title sponsorship rights. The $10 million deal would include the company’s logo in the center of the ring, branding on the ring card girls, two of the ropes in the non-fighter corners, sponsorship of the first minute of each round and $500,000 in tickets to the venue at T-Mobile Arena. If a company is interested in buying either of the fighter’s corner, they are each available for $5 million and includes $250,000 in tickets. Rovell’s reporting also reveals that WME-IMG is expected to get 10% of the total revenue that the fight generates.

**ESPN’s Brett Okamoto reported the news on Tuesday night that featherweight Megan Anderson has been forced to withdraw from her fight with Cris “Cyborg” Justino on July 29th at UFC 214 due to personal reasons. The UFC has now taken Invicta FC bantamweight fighter Tonya Evinger and she will fight Cyborg at the event in Anaheim, California. Invicta FC has had the worst luck in this entire ordeal as they announced Megan Anderson for their July 14th card and then Anderson was plucked from that fight to take on Cyborg and then replaced Anderson with Evinger, who now has also been taken by the UFC to fill the void on the UFC 214 card.

**FloCombat has reported the California State Athletic Commission is taking the step that they will not license Renan Barao to fight at 135 pounds for his proposed bantamweight fight with Aljamain Sterling at UFC 214 in Anaheim. Andy Foster of the CSAC has cited Barao’s last fight in California in August 2014 as their reasoning with Barao unable to make it the fight due to an extremely hard weight that resulted in Joe Soto taking his spot on 24-hours’ notice to fight then bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw. The commission has said they are willing to license him at 140 pounds and Barao has said he will fight Sterling at 140 or fight him the week prior on July 22nd in Long Island, New York at bantamweight.

**The UFC is scrapping the proposed pay-per-view date for August 19th, which was going to be UFC 215 with the September 9th card in Edmonton being designated as UFC 215. The rumored August pay-per-view was being targeted for Seattle and that was the date they wanted to have Demetrious Johnson defend his flyweight title. The Edmonton Sun reported on Wednesday that heavyweight Junior dos Santos and Francis Ngannou will fight on the UFC 215 card.

**Sports Illustrated writer L. Jon Wertheim has a piece on Ronda Rousey and the rapid change from Rousey’s domination in 2015 to the present where she has become a “where are they now?” type of figure. SI attempted to interview Rousey for the piece and they received a response that she would consider the request but warned them she would not speaking about anything “fight related”.

**Nick Diaz is in trouble with USADA and is facing an anti-doping violation on his record while being provisionally suspended for three whereabouts failures. Diaz is party of the registered testing pool and part of the agreement is that fighters make USADA aware of their whereabouts for possible drug testing to be conducted. This is the first time a fighter has faced a violation in the two-years since the USADA partnership went into effect. Diaz has not fought since January 2015.

**The UFC has come out in strong support of Cortney Casey, who was wrongfully suspended by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) following her win at UFC 211 in Dallas over Jessica Aguilar this past May. The TDLR suspended Casey and overturned her win after an initial drug test of Casey’s came with a 5:1 T/E ratio. Her B sample was tested and they used the Isotope-ratio test, which is designed to detect if banned substances are found in the sample and came back negative for any banned substances. USADA and the UFC have cleared Casey of any wrongdoing, while the TDLR has yet to give Casey her win back or apologize for the mistake. The UFC has since issued the following statement regarding the TDLR:

UFC has made it very clear that it takes anti-doping very seriously, instituting the most comprehensive anti-doping program in sports. One of the keys to this program, and any effective, world-class program, is ensuring that all athletes are treated to proper due process.

UFC strawweight Cortney Casey’s recent case, stemming from her fight in Dallas on May 13, 2017, is a perfect example of the type of negative and damaging backlash for an athlete resulting from a false-positive. There is no better example than this for the need to have proper due process and testing in combat sports and professional sports anti-doping.

Following the results of the additional tests at the WADA accredited laboratory, proving that Cortney did not cheat nor break any rules, UFC is requesting that the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) immediately reverse its ruling and exonerate Cortney of any wrongdoing.

UFC has offered, and continues to offer Texas and any other Commission and regulatory body around the world, the world-class expertise and experience of USADA, to assist them in properly carrying out anti-doping efforts in their state or country.

**In an update from Friday, the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation has officially dropped the three-month suspension to UFC fighter Cortney Case and also given her win back over Jessica Aguilar. An initial post-fight drug test following UFC 211 from the TDLR showed Casey to have an elevated T/E ratio, but when her B sample was tested with a Isotope Radio Test, it detected no banned substances and she was cleared of any wrongdoing by USADA. The UFC issued a strong statement against the TDLR and since then the TDLR has reversed the sanctions against Casey. The story was first reported by Marc Raimondi at MMA Fighting.

**Following the removal of the Donald Cerrone vs. Robbie Lawler fight for next weekend’s UFC 213 card, the UFC has shuffled the card around and added two more fights to the event. The heavyweight bout between Curtis Blaydes and Daniel Omielanczuk has been moved from the prelims to the pay-per-view main card and the promotion has added the following fights to the Fight Pass portion and brings the fight total to 12:
*Terrion Ware vs. Cody Stamann
*Trevin Giles vs. James Bochnovic

**The UFC has announced the most unique commentary team for the upcoming “Dana White’s Tuesday Night Contender Series” on Fight Pass. The weekly streaming fights will feature one main commentary team (which hasn’t been announced yet) and viewers will have an option for an alternative commentary track with Urijah Faber and Snoop Dogg. The series premieres on Tuesday July 11th with five fights scheduled for the initial broadcast, which takes place from the UFC Gym in Las Vegas.

**Lance Pugmire at the L.A. Times was the first to report that the welterweight fight between Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone has been rebooked for the UFC 214 card on July 29th in Anaheim, California. The two were set to fight this Saturday at UFC 213 but news came out last week that Cerrone had to be removed due to an infection.

**Beth Ulrici Hughes (the sister of Matt Hughes) has posted the following statement regarding the health of Matt and showing “small signs of improvement” after a scary truck-train accident last month.

Matt is off the ventilator and showing some small signs of improvement. There are some stories and comments out there that are exaggerated. Please don’t believe everything you hear or read. This is going to be a long journey for his recovery. Please continue to keep Matt in your prayers. He is strong, he has heart and he will not give up! We are faithful in the fact that he will recover with God’s Grace and Mercy! We as a family ask everyone to keep praying for Matt!

**The UFC’s International Fight Week will feature events all week long leading into the cards on Friday and Saturday night. Below is a schedule of events, which will all be taking place at the Park Theatre in Las Vegas (all times are Pacific):
THURSDAY
*3pm – UFC Legends Panel featuring Don Frye, Tito Ortiz, Bas Rutten and Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira – this is pretty interesting that Ortiz is a part of this
*4pm – TUF Finale weigh-in
*7:30pm – Hall of Fame Induction ceremony with Urijah Faber, Maurice Smith, Kazushi Sakuraba and Joe Silva

**Invicta FC president Shannon Knapp announced on The MMA Hour on Monday that Invicta FC 25 will take place on Thursday August 31st from Lemoore, California and will feature two championship fights. The card will feature Yana Kunitskaya and Raquel Pa’aluhi fighting for the vacant bantamweight title with Tonya Evinger vacating the title ahead of her featherweight fight with Cris “Cyborg” Justino at UFC 214. The August event will also feature Livia Renata Souza and Jodie Esquibel fighting for the vacant strawweight title, which Angela Hill vacated.

**This past Saturday’s boxing fight between Manny Pacquiao and Jeff Horn averaged 2,812,000 viewers on ESPN. ESPN touted the audience as the most-watched boxing telecast on cable television since Carlos Baldomir and Arturo Gatti fought in July 2006 on HBO. Saturday’s fight was simulcast on both ESPN and ESPN Deportes with a peak audience of 4.4 million with the combined during the main event fight.

**Below is the full Countdown to UFC 213 special that focuses on the two title fights this Saturday in Las Vegas:

*The UFC’s International Fight Week concluded with UFC 213 on Saturday night from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas with an announced attendance of 12,834 and live gate of $2,400,000.

The show was hit on Saturday afternoon with the news that Amanda Nunes would be unable to fight after being hospitalized due to illness and while medically cleared, she opted not to go ahead with the fight. This placed the interim title fight between Yoel Romero and Robert Whittaker into the main event position on the card. They are targeting the UFC 215 card on September 9th in Edmonton for the title fight. Nunes has obviously received a lot of criticism from not just fans but also on the UFC broadcast and Nunes has responded by turning her Instagram account into a private one. During the day, strawweight champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk was willing to fight Valentina Shevchenko but medicals could not be processed in such a short amount of time and they fight was never really serious.

Nunes has since come out with the following statement regarding her health prior to Saturday night:

Everyone is wanting to hear my side so here it is….. I have chronic sinusitis , I have fought with it before but this time It didn’t work out, during the weight cut I was unable to breath and felt off balance from the pressure in my sinuses. I was not feeling well enough to risk getting punched in the head with such pressure. I was taken to the hospital after weigh ins and they only checked my blood and dehydration so cleared me based on that. The next day I went back and they did a CT scan and found a build up and I was prescribed antibiotics and referred to a specialist. I have never pulled out of a fight before. I am sorry to all my fans that came out to see me, I’ll make it up to you the next time I step in the cage. The fight is being rescheduled. I still want this fight. I still want this opponent. Thank you.

**Dana White talks about Nunez' future.

The card was much like the card on Friday night with a moderate to underwhelming undercard and a very strong main event that saved the show. The Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero fight was not at the level of Justin Gaethje vs. Michael Johnson but it was very dramatic throughout the 25-minutes and Whittaker coming back to win the final three rounds and the fight. Whittaker came into the fight with a prior knee injury and Romero kicked the knee early and presented issues for Whittaker throughout the fight. Romero was hit hard late in the fight with conditioning issues and it was the biggest question involving Romero in how he would respond to the championship rounds he has never faced before.

Below are the complete results from the card:
*Trevin Giles def. James Bochnovic by KO at 2:54 of Round 2 – Giles looked very impressive in his UFC debut and landed a significant amount of shots before it was stopped. Bochnovic was down for a long time after the fight and needed to be taken to the back on a stretcher and sent to the hospital. His tests came back negative.
*Cody Stamann def. Terrion Ware by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Belal Muhammad def. Jordan Mein by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) – Mein just didn’t show the level of energy and skill he has produced in the past. Muhammad had also been fasting for Ramadan during his camp but didn’t show any issues with conditioning and only had trouble in Round 1 with Mein’s constant leg kicks.
*Thiago Santos def. Gerald Meerschaert by TKO at 2:04 of Round 2 – Meerschaert took a lot of damage from Santos’ strikes. Meerschaert shot in for a takedown and was swarmed with strikes and eventually stopped with hammer fists. Santos wants a rematch with Gegard Mousasi, who beat Santos a year ago at UFC 200.
*Chad Laprise def. Brian Camozzi by TKO at 1:27 of Round 3 – Laprise seemed much better at the higher weight class, which is the same weight he won TUF at in 2014. Laprise was just the better pure striker and put Camozzi up against the cage in the third and landed body shots and a knee as Camozzi went down.
*Aleksey Oleinik def. Travis Browne by submission at 3:44 of Round 2 – Browne was connecting well early in the first round and then the tide turned with Oleinik knocking him down with a right hand and coming back to win the round. In the second, Oleinik escaped side control and took Browne down, got his back and submitted him with more of a crossface than a choke while scissoring the body with his legs. This was Browne’s fourth consecutive loss and Dana White said he feels Browne should retire after the loss.
*Rob Font def. Douglas Silva de Andrade by guillotine at 4:36 of Round 2 – With the card being reshuffled, this went from Fight Pass to the pay-per-view card. Font was constantly attempting the guillotine and finally applied it and didn’t even do it from guard and got the submission.
*Anthony Pettis def. Jim Miller by unanimous decision (30-27 all) – A much better version of Pettis than the one fighting at featherweight. Miller was cut badly from a head kick early in the second round and Pettis worked well off his back.
*Curtis Blaydes def. Daniel Omielanczuk by unanimous decision (30-27 all) – Blaydes tried to take Omielanczuk down all fight long and was blocked every time. Blaydes connected more and it was more than Omielanczuk didn’t seem to have any answers and resulted in a dull fight.
*Alistair Overeem def. Fabricio Werdum my majority decision (29-28, 28-28, 29-28) – Overeem clearly won the second round and Werdum won the third by a significant margin and it came down to Round 1, where so little actually happened. Werdum landed more in the first but Overeem landed two good right hands. It was a coin flip round . It wasn’t a great fight and the real winner is Francis Ngannou, who fights Junior dos Santos next and could get the next title fight with an impressive win.
*Robert Whittaker def. Yoel Romero by unanimous decision (48-47 all) to become the interim middleweight champion – Most had Romero winning the first two rounds and Whittaker the final three. Whittaker is a very tricky striker to figure out and his takedown defence was excellent all fight long even with the knee injury he had to deal with. After the fight, Michael Bisping came into the ring and clearly wasn’t in the mode to cut a big promo because he thought the fight was great but then cut a promo anyway and tossed his title on the mat.

The Fight of the Night bonus went to Robert Whittaker and Yoel Romero and the two Performance bonuses went to Rob Font and Chad Laprise for $50,000 each.

**The press tour has been announced for the Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor fight with the two hitting four cities and three countries next week to promote the August 26th fight in Las Vegas. Below is the information for the four press tour events:
*Tuesday July 11th in Los Angeles at the Staples Center at 5:30pm Pacific
*Wednesday July 12th in Toronto at the Sony Center at 6pm Eastern
*Thursday July 13th in Brooklyn at the Barclays Center at 7pm Eastern
*Friday July 14th in London at the SSE Arena at 7pm British Standard Time

**Showtime Sports has released their first promo for the Floyd Mayweather, Jr. vs. Conor McGregor fight:

**Thursday night’s UFC Hall of Fame Induction ceremony turned out very well with four people being inducted and all of them providing speeches and were inducted by someone close to them.

Bas Rutten and Greg? White (the younger brother of Maurice) were the first out to induct Maurice Smith. The constant reference was to Smith’s upset win over Mark Coleman at UFC 14 with Rutten adding stories of their times in Japan together as they fought twice but were always friends. Smith came out and immediately took issue with his public record of 14-14 in MMA and disputed it stating he was 10-6. He also noted the correct way to pronounce “Maurice”. This certainly wasn’t a polished speech and he admittedly got lost reading the prompter.

Don Frye stole the show for his induction speech for Kazushi Sakuraba that ended up turning into a Don Frye roast of the MMA world. Frye has had some terrible health problems over the past year and was in a coma at one point, he also got divorced and his horse died. Frye transitioned from being divorced to hitting on Miesha Tate in the audience and talking about her ESPN Body Issue appearance. Frye spoke about Sakuraba and stated that the fights with Wanderlei Silva never should have taken place because of the size disparity and stated that Silva was a cross between “Carrot Top and a radioactive triceratops”. Frye’s speech is really worth checking out and he was the Bobby Heenan of this particular induction ceremony. Sakuraba came out with a translator and just did a wonderful speech about his taking his philosophies from professional wrestling and telling stories to the audience over to Mixed Martial Arts. He stated that “David vs. Goliath” was a story and he applied that to MMA by being matches with oversized opponents. He also wanted everyone to say a prayer for Yoshihiro Takayama, who suffered a spinal cord injury a few months back.

UFC president Dana White inducted Joe Silva and called him the “greatest matchmaker in the history of combat sports” and wasn’t shy about emphasizing how much of a role Silva played in their rise. Silva came out and discussed his curiosity towards the martial arts and always being a skeptic with the UFC being an outlet to expose the fraudulent arts and stuff that would not work in a real fight. He thanked all of the key executives from the original UFC and all the behind-the-scenes people that no one knows about. Silva mentioned how he was always told he had everyone’s dream job and countered by stating part of his job was to tell fighters on a daily basis they were cut or not good enough to be in the UFC on top of booking more than 40 cards a year with the constant injuries and holes to fill on shows. He ended his speech by stating that Urijah Faber texted Silva earlier this year asking how retirement was going and Silva said “I haven’t had a bad day yet” and is completely happy to be at home, enjoy all his hobbies and has no inclination to ever return.

Joseph Benavidez and Cody Garbrandt inducted Urijah Faber with Benavidez providing a lengthy speech about Faber as the captain of Team Alpha Male. Faber came out and had a piece of paper that he never referred to until the end and just shared various stories all over the place. He said if he wanted to he believes he could fight another 10 years and his main message was always staying positive. He discussed all his various side projects, learning the licensing game of the business and all the different avenues he has ahead of him. While this wasn’t a Diamond Dallas Page speech, if Faber wanted to pursue things, he could easily become a motivational speaker as he has natural charisma and a likeability factor that is genuine.

**TSN in Canada was the first to report that a featherweight fight between Gilbert Melendez and Jeremy Stephens has been added to the UFC 215 card on September 9th in Edmonton, Alberta. Melendez came from a one-year suspension last July and dropped a decision to Edson Barboza in his last fight, so it will be 14-months in between fights for Melendez. Stephens is coming off a pair of decision losses in his last two outings to Frankie Edgar last November at UFC 205 and most recent dropping a split decision to Renato Moicano this past April.

**Friday night’s Ultimate Fighter Finale card featured the best fight of 2017 with Justin Gaethje defeating Michael Johnson with a stoppage near the end of the second round. This fight was a war with both landing incredible shots on one another and Gaethje inserted himself into the lightweight division as a star on night one. Gaethje stole the weekend and this was the “must see” fight of the weekend. The show drew 6,208 to the T-Mobile Arena and a gate of $432,295 and below are the results:
*Gray Maynard def. Teruto Ishihara by unanimous decision (30-26 all)
*Tecia Torres def. Juliana Lima by rear-naked choke at 0:53 of Round 2
*C.B. Dollaway def. Ed Herman by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27)
*James Krause def. Tom Gallicchio by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Angela Hill def. Ashley Yoder by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Jordan Johnson def. Marcel Fortuna by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Brad Tavares def. Elias Theodorou by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Jared Cannonier def. Nick Roehrick by TKO at 2:08 of Round 3
*Drakkar Klose def. Marc Diakiese by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Jesse Taylor def. Dhiego Lima by rear-naked choke at 0:43 of Round 2 to win the TUF 25 season
*Justin Gaethje def. Michael Johnson by TKO at 4:48 of Round 2

This is just plain insulting, really.

I’m no Mayweather fan or MMA hater, but Conor is easily one of the worst athletes Floyd has ever fought.

Just look at some of the training videos and fights for each fighter. The difference in handspeed and hand-eye coordination is absurd.

Also, at 154 pounds or not, Flyod’s fought people with far more power than Conor.

This is like a father playfighting with his 6-year-old.

**The UFC held their first event ever at the Nassau Coliseum on Long Island, New York on Saturday with an announced attendance of 11,198 and gate of $1,088,332. The show was built around Chris Weidman fighting at the arena that he grew up attending Islanders hockey games and lived minutes away from the arena (he said to him it was a thrill to fight at Madison Square Garden in November but the Nassau Coliseum was his major venue to compete in). The card also featured tons of local fighters competing on the show so there was a great atmosphere throughout the night and culminated with the arena going insane when Weidman got the submission victory in the main event. Below are the results:
*Chris Wade def. Frankie Perez by unanimous decision (30-27, 29-28, 29-28) – Not a very exciting fight with Wade taking Perez down throughout the fight and using tremendous pressure on top.
*Shane Burgos def. Godofredo Pepey by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-26, 29-28) – Pepey constantly tried to make this a brawl and frequently flopped to his back with Burgos wanting no part of his guard game. Burgos was such a better striker and knocked him down in the first round and then lit him up throughout the third, which could have been a 10-8 round.
*Junior Albini def. Timothy Johnson by TKO at 2:51 of Round 1 – Albini is very fast for a heavyweight that weighs close to the heavyweight limit. Albini landed a knee to the body and that set up a left hand and dropped him with a follow up right hand and won the fight.
*Marlon Vera def. Brian Kelleher by armbar at 2:18 of Round 1 – Vera was going for a kimura and then did a terrific transition onto his back and locked on an armbar with Kelleher immediately tapping when he knew he was caught.
*Jeremy Kennedy def. Kyle Bochniak by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28) – Kennedy is a Canadian fighter out of British Columbia and is now 11-0 as a pro fighter.
*Chase Sherman def. Damian Grabowski by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 30-27) – Sherman was better conditioned and a more effective striker and varied up his offence to connect throughout the fight and landed 90 strikes by the end.
*Alex Oliveira def. Ryan LaFlare by KO at 1:50 of Round 2 – LaFlare won the first round with a body lock takedown and control on top. In the second, LaFlare used his momentum and walked right into a short right uppercut and face planted with the fight being called.
*Eryk Anders def. Rafael Natal by KO at 2:54 of Round 1 – Anders fought outside the UFC less than a month ago and had a hand injury, which prevented him from fighting last weekend and made his UFC debut here. Anders dropped him with a left hand and finished him with hammer fists and made a strong impression beating someone the level of Natal in his first UFC bout.
*Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos def. Lyman Good by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) – This was a very good fight and earned the fight of the night bonus.
*Jimmie Rivera def. Thomas Almeida by unanimous decision (30-26, 30-27, 29-28) – This was another close fight and had big stakes because these are two emerging contenders at bantamweight. Rivera won the first and third rounds and Almeida taking the second round on my card. After the fight, Rivera challenged Dominick Cruz among others and exchanged words with Cruz, who was cage side calling the fight.
*Patrick Cummins def. Gian Villante by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – Villante won the first round and was doing a great job of stopping the takedown attempts from Cummins. Villante started to tire after the first round and Cummins put on a lot of pressure with his strikes and upped his volume to score points and it came down to a close third round.
*Darren Elkins def. Dennis Bermudez by unanimous decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – Elkins did a great job of thwarting the wrestling of Bermudez in the first and getting to his back and slamming down Bermudez a few times during the fight. Bermudez had his most success when he just stood at distance and relied on his striking but then would shoot in and Elkins is so strong in the clinch and maneuvers to the back very effectively.
*Chris Weidman def. Kelvin Gastelum by arm-triangle choke at 3:45 of Round 3 – Weidman was controlling the first round with a single leg takedown and then control on top but in the final seconds, Gastelum dropped him with a left and the buzzer sounded to give Gastelum the round. The second round featured Weidman going back to his grappling and his takedowns were huge with five of them by the mid-way point of the second round. In the third, Weidman got a takedown off the fence and had Gastelum’s back and transitioned to lock on the arm-triangle and got the tap. The place went crazy and Weidman had a huge celebration with his family in the cage with his first win since May 2015.

The Fight of the Night bonus went to Elizeu Zaleski dos Santos and Lyman Good and the Performance bonuses went to Alex Oliveira and Junior Albini, all for $50,000.

**During the FOX broadcast, Brian Stann interviewed Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones by satellite with Jones having no interest being there and when the interview was over, got up and took off his microphone on camera to walk off. Cormier did his part of stating he isn’t fuelled by hatred of Jones, doesn’t care about his outside problems and just wants the fight next weekend and considers himself the real champion.

**Here is UFC president Dana White’s appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live, discussing the recent press tour for Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Conor McGregor and plugging UFC 214 next weekend:

**The final audience numbers for the UFC on FOX card will be released later this week, but the overnight ratings didn’t paint a good picture. The overnight number averaged 1,640,000 viewers and would be the lowest overnight total of any UFC card on FOX, going back to their first event in November 2011. The overnight numbers do not take into account the West Coast viewership or anything past 10pm Eastern, which is key because the main event involving Chris Weidman and Kelvin Gastelum did not begin until 10pm and should boost the number somewhat.

**The pre-sale for tickets to the August 26th fight between Floyd Mayweather, Jr. and Conor McGregor began this week with tickets ranging from $3,500 – $10,000 on the T-Mobile Arena website.

**The UFC is holding a UFC 214 press conference this Wednesday at 4pm Eastern with Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones. The press conference will be carried live by Fight Network.

**BT Sport has a mini documentary on Conor McGregor entitled “Doubt Me Now”:

UFC 214 tonight. Big match between Cormier and Jones. I can't really see Jones losing this. He's just that good. Rumours he will face Brock Lesnar next.

Several other top fights as well, should be a good one.

Jones isn't the fighter he was, i say Cormier prevails via decision.

No way would a Jones-Lesnar fight happen. Lesnar walks around at 280-290lbs and would ragdoll Jones.

I hope Cormier wins, but I think Jones will win. Hope you are right.

"Jones is preparing for his rematch with Daniel Cormier in the main event of UFC 214 this weekend, but he made headlines during a recent Facebook Live chat by saying he would love to take on Lesnar, who is back in professional wrestling after his return to the octagon at UFC 200 last year.

Jones added that he thought Lesnar would never accept such a fight, which would certainly be one of the biggest events in mixed martial arts history."
