**The DREAM 18 New Year’s Eve card held early this morning from the Saitama Super Arena was a pretty fun show with a lot of quick finishes throughout the card. The team of Mauro Ranallo, Frank Shamrock and Stephen Quadros really stood out and you could tell just how excited the crew was to be back in Japan (this was Ranallo’s first trip back to Japan since leaving Pride in 2006). Here are the results from the DREAM portion of the card:
*Will Brooks over Satoru Kitaoka by TKO in Round 2 – Brooks trains out of ATT and slammed Kitaoka at one point and was the stronger of the two. Kitaoka’s lower body resembled a mummy with how taped up he was.
*Marloes Coenen over Fiona Muxlow by armbar in Round 1 – this was a last minute addition to the card late last week. Coenen is one of the top 145-pound fighters in the world and the only thing holding her back from entering the UFC is getting down to 135 and is also associated with Golden Glory, which has been on difficult terms with the UFC for a long time. Coenen secured a belly down armbar and Muxlow defended well but succumbed as Coenen got better position.
*Hayato Sakurai over Phil Baroni by unanimous decision – Baroni looked good in the first two rounds but was spent by the end of the fight with the two wailing away at the close of the third round. Both are well into the twilight of their careers but Baroni continues to look good physically but is battling father time.
*Melvin Manhoef over Denis Kang by KO in Round 1 – Manhoef connected with a knee to the body flush that sent Kang down and out with Manhoef nailing him with a brutal shot near or at the back of the head upon his landing. This was classic Melvin Manhoef where he looks like a killer that can cause problems for anyone when he wins in quick fashion.
*Bibiano Fernandes over Yoshiro Maeda by triangle choke in Round 1 – This was a great fight for as short as it was with Fernandes getting his back, Maeda transitioning out and Fernandes getting it back, locking in the triangle and tightening the submission for the win. Fernandes nearly signed with the UFC earlier this year and was pencilled in for the UFC 149 card in Calgary but instead opted to sign with One FC for a lucrative amount of money.
*Shinya Aoki over Antonio McKee by TKO in Round 2 – Aoki connected with a hard shot to the nose of McKee in the second and sent him into the ropes where he followed through with more punches and McKee was caught bad by the initial shot and led to the stoppage, this was about as exciting an Antonio McKee fight as you will see.
*Georgi Karakhanyan over Hiroyuki Takaya by split decision – I thought the second round was the closest but Karakhanyan was the better striker.
*Tatsuya Kawajiri over Michihiro Omigawa by unanimous decision – this was not a great fight with Kawajiri taking Omigawa down for three-rounds, using elbows and smothering him for the whole fight. Omigawa tried to work off his back but Kawajiri was more active and no question as to who would be awarded the decision but a weak fight.
*Jerome LeBanner over Koichi in a kickboxing bout (three 2:00 rounds instead of the usual 3:00 rounds) – LeBanner outclassed Koichi for the first two rounds, Koichi landed a pair of shots in the third and then got blasted and put out with a beautiful right hand by LeBanner.

**The Inoki Bom-Ba-Ye event also took place early today featuring a mixture of professional wrestling and MMA fights on the card. The most notable MMA fights featured Mirko Cro Cop returning to action and stopping Wakakirin in 1:18 of the first round and 2008 Olympic gold medallist Satoshi Ishii defeated former UFC heavyweight Tim Sylvia by unanimous decision after three-rounds.

**Here are the results from the UFC 155 card on Saturday night in front of 12,423 fans at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas and a gate of $3,286,000:
*John Moraga over Chris Cariaso by guillotine choke at 3:11 of Round 3
*Max Holloway over Leonard Garcia by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28)
*Todd Duffee over Phil De Fries by TKO at 2:04 of Round 1
*Myles Jury over Michael Johnson by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*Jamie Varner over Melvin Guillard by split decision (30-27, 27-30, 30-27)
*Erik Perez over Byron Bloodworth by TKO at 3:50 of Round 1
*Eddie Wineland over Brad Pickett by split decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Derek Brunson over Chris Leben by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Yushin Okami over Alan Belcher by unanimous decision (30-27, 30-27, 29-28)
*Constantinos Philippou over Tim Boestch by TKO at 2:11 of Round 3
*Jim Miller over Joe Lauzon by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Cain Velasquez over Junior dos Santos by unanimous decision (50-45, 50-44, 50-43) to win the UFC heavyweight title

**The following $65,000 bonuses were handed out after the card:
*Fight of the Night – Jim Miller Vs Joe Lauzon (no surprise)
*Knockout of the Night – Todd Duffee
*Submission of the Night – John Moraga

**Joe Lauzon needed 40 stitches in total for the various cuts he sustained during the fight including the nasty gash above his eye that was the major one.

**Dana White stated at the post fight press conference that Leonard Garcia would not be cut regardless of suffering his fourth straight loss in the UFC. On the Mike Goldberg situation he just said that Goldberg will be out for awhile and moved on. He said that Anderson Silva has just signed a new ten-fight deal with the UFC.

**The UFC 209 card faced a major change on Friday with Khabib Nurmagomedov not medically cleared to compete and was unable to weigh-in on Friday morning. The UFC announced that the interim title fight between Nurmagomedov and Tony Ferguson is canceled as a result. Nurmagomedov was taken to hospital on Thursday night and was deemed unfit to compete due to problems with his weight cut. The UFC is currently working on finding a replacement with Michael Johnson indicating there is a good possibility he could end up fighting Ferguson. Johnson is the last fighter to beat Ferguson when they fought in May 2012 and since then Ferguson has won nine straight fights.

**Episode 5 of UFC Embedded:

**Mark Hunt goes off on the steroid cheaters in the sport and talks about how he feels like he was forced to face another fighter that he believes has cheated. Alistair Overeem responds at UFC 209 mediafest.

**The UFC 209 event from Saturday night at the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas drew an announced crowd of 13,150 and a gate of $2,385,230 for a show that was hurt the day prior with the loss of the Khabib Nurmagomedov vs. Tony Ferguson fight after Nurmagomedov was taken to hospital Thursday night and couldn’t weigh in. The show featured two incredible come-from-behind victories by Darren Elkins against Mirsad Bektic and Iuri Alcantara being dominated by Luke Sanders and then locking on a knee bar and pulling out the submission victory. Below are the results from the show:
*Albert Morales def. Andre Soukhamthath by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – The third was close as Soukhamthath landed all these brutal body shots in the first minute but then was taken down and controlled for the majority of the round.
*Tyson Pedro def. Paul Craig by TKO at 4:10 of Round 1
*Mark Godbeer def. Daniel Spitz by unanimous decision (30-27 all) –Spitz was exhausted by the end of this fight.
*Iuri Alcantara def. Luke Sanders by knee bar at 3:13 of Round 2 – Sanders obliterated Alcantara with strikes in the first and then made a mental error and hit him with an illegal knee and was deducted a point and took the first round 9-8. Sanders continued with strikes in the second and it's not surprising it wasn’t stopped but then Alcantara caught the leg and instantly tapped him.
*Darren Elkins def. Mirsad Bektic by KO at 3:19 of Round 3 – Bektic was destroying him in the first round and continued in the second with Elkins briefly getting his back and avoiding damage. In the third, Elkins crippled him with knees to the boyd and then landed a big head kick and finished Bektic. This was a huge upset.
*Marcin Tybura def. Luis Henrique by TKO at 3:46 of Round 3
*Alistair Overeem def. Mark Hunt by KO at 1:44 of Round 3 – The split the first two rounds and then in the third, Overeem hit two huge knees and snuck in a left uppercut while Hunt was on his way down and face planted to the mat.
*Cynthia Calvillo def. Amanda Cooper by rear-naked choke at 3:19 of Round 1 – Calvillo reversed a takedown and got to the back in spectacular fashion and then locked on a rear-naked choke for the submission. These two were moved from Fight Pass onto the pay-per-view when the lightweight fight was canceled.
*Dan Kelly def. Rashad Evans by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – Evans seemed dejected by the decision and has not won a fight since 2013. As much as people will focus on Evans losing to a lower ranked guy, Evans was in this fight and had his best round in the third. Evans can still continue this fight and Kelly has proven to be an extremely tough style to deal with as a southpaw. Kelly is now 6-1 since coming off of the TUF Nations reality show.
*David Teymur def. Lando Vannata by unanimous decision (30-27 all) – This was an excellent fight and the first round was one of the best rounds of 2017. Teymur was very effective with knees landing to the body in succession and slowed down Vannata in the second and third rounds. This was a great fight.
*Tyron Woodley def. Stephen Thompson by majority decision (48-47, 47-47, 48-47) to retain the UFC welterweight title – This was not a good fight and the opposite of Teymur-Vannata. There was so little that occurred in the first and second rounds. In the first 9 minutes, each had only landed seven significant strikes apiece. In the third, Woodley won the round mainly through a takedown and some offence while on top. Thompson took the fourth round after landing a head kick. The fifth was going Thompson’s way until Woodley unloaded for the only entertaining sequence of the fight when he dropped Thompson and hit a number of strikes. This was a bad fight.

**Sal D’Amato scored the fifth round a 10-8 for Woodley and in a rare instance, Nevada Athletic Commission executive director Bob Bennett spoke to the media and stated that score was incorrect and it was not enough for a 10-8 round. D’Amato had the 47-47 score so if you had changed his fifth round to a 10-9, Woodley would have won by unanimous decision instead of a majority so it didn’t change the outcome.

**UFC president Dana White revealed at the post-fight press conference that Alistair Overeem was battling food poisoning and was still able to compete. Overeem said he was administered an IV but went through the proper procedures with USADA to avoid any penalties. Overeem said he would like to fight Francis Ngannou next but White noted they have plans for Ngannou this summer.

**Here are the main card results from the Bellator 174 event on Friday night in Thackerville, Oklahoma and aired on Spike TV:
*Rafael Lovato Jr. def. Charles Hackmann by TKO in 0:1Rafael Lovato Jr. def. Charles Hackmann by TKO in 0:13 – they fought at a catchweight of 194 pounds
*Justin Wren def. Roman Pizzolato by arm-triangle at 2:35 of Round 1 – Wren looked tremendous and is another name to watch at heavyweight. He was nonstop with suplexes and submission pressure prior to the finish.
*Fernando Gonzalez def. Brandon Girtz by unanimous decision (30-26, 29-27, 29-28) – Girtz is a natural lightweight and took this welterweight fight on short notice when Andrey Koreshkov was injured. Then Gonzalez was overweight at 173.9 and Girtz couldn’t even get big enough and weighed in at 165.6.
*Julia Budd def. Marloes Coenen by TKO at 2:42 of Round 4 to become the first Bellator women’s featherweight champion – Budd dominated the fight with takedowns and top control. She mounted Coenen in the fourth and McCarthy gave Coenen lots of opportunities to get to a better position and could not. Coenen announced her retirement after the fight.

**Bellator is off until Friday March 31st when they run the Allstate Arena in Chicago, which is headlined by a heavyweight rematch between Quinton Jackson and Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal.

**The UFC announced on Tuesday that heavyweight Ben Rothwell has been flagged for a possible USADA violation and puts his upcoming fight with Fabricio Werdum at UFC 211 in jeopardy. Rothwell has released the following statement regarding the matter:

With the recent news received from USADA I would like to take this time to let everyone know, I have been under the care of a physician and trying to overcome a medical illness. I would appreciate the chance to show that I have not cheated nor did I intended to cheat. Please hold your opinions of me until all the facts are out. I appreciate everyone’s support as I go through the process with usada.

**A verbal agreement is in place between Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier to fight at UFC 211 on May 13th in Dallas, Texas. This would be Alvarez’s first fight since his loss to Conor McGregor at UFC 205 last November where he dropped the lightweight title. Poirier returned to the lightweight division in 2015 and won four straight before he was stopped by Michael Johnson last September but rebounded recently by defeating Jim Miller at UFC 208. This fight was first reported by ESPN while Alvarez had stated on The MMA Hour earlier this week he had been offered fights with Poirier and Michael Chiesa but was hopeful of getting a fight with Nate Diaz.

**Brett Okamoto at ESPN was the first to report that a bantamweight fight between Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis has been added to UFC 211 as well in Dallas.

**The UFC held a Fight Night event on Saturday in Fortaleza, Brazil with an announced attendance of 14,069 with one of the hottest crowds of the year for the promotion. Below are the results from the show:
*Paulo Henrique Costa def. Garreth McLellan by TKO at 1:17 of Round 1
*Jeremy Kennedy def. Rony Jason by unanimous decision (29-27, 29-28, 29-28)
*Michel Prazeres def. Josh Burkman by submission at 1:41 of Round 1 – Prazeres dominated this fight with slams and takedowns before locking on a North-South choke for the tap.
*Joe Soto def. Rani Yahya by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-27, 29-27) – The two cracked heads in the first round and Joe Soto was leaking blood like a faucet and led to all the blood you saw on the canvas throughout the show. The first round was the closest and Soto easily took the second and third rounds.
*Sergio Moraes def. Davi Ramos by unanimous decision (30-27 all) – Ramos took the fight on short notice over the past week.
*Kevin Lee def. Francisco Trinaldo by rear-naked choke at 3:12 of Round 2 – Trinaldo’s seven-fight win streak was snapped by Lee, who is a tremendous wrestler and took the back of Trinaldo after landing on top in mount and then getting the choke. Lee said he wants to fight Khabib Nurmagomedov.
*Alex Oliveira def. Tim Means by rear-naked choke at 2:38 – This was a rematch from UFC 207 where Means delivered an illegal knee that led to the stoppage but was later changed to a no contest. Oliveira threw Means around with slams prior to submitting him in the second.
*Bethe Correia and Marion Reneau fought to a majority draw (29-27 Reneau, 28-28, 28-28) – Correia won a close first round, definitely won the second but then got dominated in the third by Reneau . Reneau rocked Correia standing and then took her back and swarmed her with strikes throughout the third round and it would have been a travesty if she had only be awarded a 10-9 round but all three judges had the final round a 10-8.
*Ray Borg def. Jussier Formiga by unanimous decision (29-28 all) – Borg looked great in this fight, at one point Formiga got his back and Borg had a beautiful scramble to escape. Borg wasn’t afraid to try and take Formiga down and this is his second solid outing after beating Louis Smolka in December and is a flyweight to pay a lot of attention to. Borg also worked at Jackson-Winkeljohn for this camp.
*Edson Barboza def. Beneil Dariush by KO at 3:35 of Round 2 – This was the best knockout of 2017 as Barboza crushed Dariush with a flying knee as Dariush shot in and it was one of the more violent flying knees you will see.
*Mauricio “Shogun” Rua def. Gian Villante by TKO at 0:59 of Round 3 – Shogun was very patient throughout the fight, never initiated any brawls and found his opening in the third and swarmed Villante with strikes against the fence and dropped him when the referee stepped in. It would make sense to match Shogun with Misha Cirkunov next.
*Kelvin Gastelum def. Vitor Belfort by TKO at 3:52 of Round 1 – These were two fighters in drastically different stages of their careers and the crowd was quiet as Gastelum stopped Belfort. Gastelum was way too fast for Belfort and dropped him once but Belfort recovered and then later connected with a right and left and finished with hammer fists. Gastelum said he would like to fight Anderson Silva in June at UFC 212 in Rio de Janeiro.

**This week’s UFC event is the card from London, England at the O2 Arena and will air on Fight Pass beginning at 1:30pm Eastern. The card is headlined by a light heavyweight fight between Jimi Manuwa and Corey Anderson.

**Vitor Belfort stated he has one more fight left on his UFC deal and expects that to be his final fight.

**The UFC 211 card on May 13th in Dallas continues to grow with another major fight added. The UFC announced on Thursday that Frankie Edgar will take on Yair Rodriguez in a fantastic fight at featherweight. Edgar is coming off his decision victory over Jeremy Stephens at UFC 205 last November while Rodriguez ran through BJ Penn in January in his last outing. This featherweight fights joins the two title fights announced with Stipe Miocic vs. Junior dos Santos and Joanna Jedrzejczyk vs. Jessica Andrade, a welterweight fight between Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal (Maia already deserves a title fight), a lightweight fight between Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier and a flyweight fight between Henry Cejudo and Sergio Pettis.

**UFC light heavyweight Misha Cirkunov speaks with Aaron Bronsteter at TSN about reaching a new deal with the UFC, his negotiations with the promotion and would like to fight in the summer and get two fights in this year.

**A welterweight fight between Mike Perry and Jake Ellenberger has been added to the Fight Night card on April 22nd in Nashville, Tennessee.

**The UFC has added three more fights to the UFC 212 pay-per-view on June 3rd in Rio de Janeiro. They have announced that Antonio Carlos Jr. will take on Eric Spicely in a middleweight fight, Johnny Eduardo takes on Matthew Lopez in bantamweight action and Marco Beltran meets Deiveson Alcantara in a flyweight fight. This card is headlined by Jose Aldo taking on Max Holloway to unify their featherweight titles.

Dana White shoots down latest Mayweather-McGregor rumors: It’s ‘nowhere near being done’

UFC president Dana White has once again shot down reports that Floyd Mayweather vs. Conor McGregor is a done deal.

Image
by Mookie Alexander

The latest chapter of “Will Conor McGregor fight Floyd Mayweather?” involves a recent report from FloCombat, who confirmed with sources that the “T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas has put the June 10 date on hold” for a possible superfight between the UFC lightweight champion and one of the greatest boxers of all-time.

When you combine that story with Mayweather “officially” ending his retirement, along with his statement that he wants to fight McGregor in June, it looks as if there’s something brewing here! Where do I buy my tickets and which hotel do I reserve?

Don’t worry, because UFC president Dana White told TMZ that the fight is "nowhere near being done." As far as that June 10th holding date, White added that "there is no target date whatsoever."

So it’s business as usual. You have indications that the fight may actually be happening, while Dana White says the fight is not happening and that they’re not close to putting it all together for this matchup to be staged.

Conor McGregor on Floyd Mayweather fight: “I am boxing”
Image

Wait, you thought UFC superstar Conor McGregor could attend a boxing event in New York on St. Patrick’s Day and not cause a scene? How naive of you.

McGregor accompanied his friend and countryman Michael Conlan, a 2012 Olympic bronze medallist and 2015 world champion, who made his professional debut on a Top Rank card in The Theater at Madison Square Garden on Friday night.

Conlan stopped Tim Ibarra in the third round but that wasn’t the story of the night. McGregor, who is in the midst of negotiations to fight Floyd Mayweather Jr. later this year, stole the show with a ringside rant.

Ever since this proposed Mayweather-McGregor bout first started gaining traction, the vast majority of pundits from the boxing and MMA worlds wrote the UFC lightweight champion off as having no chance against an all-time great like Mayweather.

So when McGregor had an opportunity to speak directly to media that were situated on press row, specifically veteran ESPN boxing reporter Dan Rafael, he let loose.

"You’re the boxing guy? I’m the boxing guy!" McGregor yelled towards Rafael. "Watch me take over boxing, trust me on that. Floyd doesn't know, no one in this boxing game knows what’s coming. Trust me on that. When I step in there I’m gonna shut the whole goddamn world. Trust me on that. Look me in the eyes, 28 years of age, confident as a motherfucker, long, rangy, dangerous with every hand. Trust me, I’m gonna stop Floyd. You’re all gonna eat your words. The whole world is gonna eat their words."

When a reporter asked when a fight with Mayweather is going to happen, McGregor responded by saying, "We’re getting close, don’t worry about it. You'll hear about it. I’m out of here. I am boxing!”

Earlier this month, Mayweather said he was "officially" out of retirement for Conor McGregor. The 40-year-old retired in 2015 after beating Andre Berto and improving to 49-0 as a professional, tying Rocky Marciano’s remarkable record.

McGregor, the UFC’s first and only simultaneous two-weight champion, hasn’t fought since knocking out Eddie Alvarez to win the lightweight belt at UFC 205 in November. Although he is known as one of the most talented strikers in MMA history, he doesn't have any boxing matches on his record.

**The UFC returned to London, England on Saturday at the O2 Arena and the card lost two fights on the day of the show. Ian Entwistle was not cleared to fight and his bout with Brett Johns was taken off the show and led to Entwistle announcing his retirement later in the day. Then at the beginning of the broadcast, John Gooden announced that Tom Breese was deemed medically unfit to compete and his fight with Oluwale Bamgbose was also scrapped from the show. The card drew 15,761 and a gate of $2,015,777, which are very strong numbers and a slightly higher gate than their last card, which had Anderson Silva vs. Michael Bisping in the main event (although all the tickets were sold for the original main event of Bisping vs. Gegard Mousasi). Below are all of the results from the show:
*Lina Lansberg def. Lucie Pudilova by unanimous decision (29-28 all) – This was a rematch from 2015 and Lansberg won both. Lansberg won the first two rounds but was completely out struck in the final round and her eye was swollen shut. After the fight, Lansberg said she thought Pudilova won the fight and this was a rare occasion where the fighter felt they lost and a lot of people thought she won.
*Brad Scott def. Scott Askham by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – Scott injured his leg and it came down to a close second round.
*Marc Diakiese def. Teemu Packalen by KO at 0:30 of Round 1 – This was incredible with Diakiese landing a jumping spinning back kick to the head and then a right hand and Packalen was out, excellent performance and one of the best 0:30 performances you will see.
*Leon Edwards def. Vicente Luque by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Timothy Johnson def. Daniel Omielanczuk by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 29-28) – This was a bad fight.
*Francimar Barroso def. Darren Stewart by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Joe Duffy def. Reza Madadi by unanimous decision (30-27 all) – This was the last fight on Duffy’s UFC deal and he looked great in this fight. He is one of the more underrated strikers at lightweight and has a legitimate boxing background. He is a valuable fighter for any organization to sign.
*Arnold Allen def. Makwan Amirkhani by split decision (30-27, 28-29, 30-27) –Allen was able to mount him a number of times throughout the fight and thwart any submission attempts by Amirkhani.
*Marlon Vera def. Brad Pickett by TKO at 3:50 of Round 3 – Pickett was so sad when the referee stopped the fight and it was a different reaction than usual where a fighter is usually angry. This was Pickett’s retirement fight in his hometown so the crowd was solidly behind Pickett. Two judges had Pickett up 20-18 going into the final round so had he survived the knockdown he probably would have lost the third round but won the fight by split decision.
*Gunnar Nelson def. Alan Jouban by guillotine at 0:46 of Round 2 – Nelson is incredible to watch when he gets his opponent to the mat and his systematic transitions to mount. In the second, he rocked Jouban with a right hand and latched on a guillotine for the submission.
*Jimi Manuwa def. Corey Anderson by KO at 3:05 of Round 1 – Manuwa dropped him with a left hook and Anderson was out and Manuwa did the simple walk off for added style points. This was an incredible knockout and after the fight Manuwa said he wanted a light heavyweight title fight and also wants to fight boxer David Haye.

**The Performance bonuses were given out to Jimi Manuwa, Gunnar Nelson, Marlon Vera and Marc Diakiese for $50,000 each.

**Here are the results from Saturday night’s World Series of Fighting card from Verona, New York with three title fights on the main card:
*Bekbulat Magomedov def. Donavan Frelow by unanimous decision (50-45 all) to win the vacant WSOF bantamweight title
*Andre Harrison def. Lance Palmer by unanimous decision (49-46, 48-47, 48-47) to win the WSOF featherweight title
*Blagoy Ivanov def. Shawn Jordan by TKO at 1:43 of Round 1 to keep the WSOF heavyweight title

**The Associated Press broke the news on Monday that Bellator will return to pay-per-view for the first time since 2014 on June 24th and have booked Madison Square Garden for the show. The AP story added that the card will be headlined by Chael Sonnen taking on Wanderlei Silva in Silva’s Bellator debut and first fight since March 2013. Silva was initially given a lifetime ban by the Nevada Athletic Commission for avoiding a 2014 drug test and that was later reduced to three-years and that suspension expires in May. The New York Post added that the heavyweight fight between Fedor Emelianenko and Matt Mitrione is also scheduled for the pay-per-view card in June. The two were scheduled to fight last month in San Jose but Mitrione was pulled the day of the fight after being hospitalized with a kidney stone. The last time Bellator ran on pay-per-view was in May 2014 for a card headlined by Quinton Jackson and Muhammad “King Mo” Lawal and also featured Tito Ortiz vs. Alexander Shlemenko and was able to generate 100,000 buys. If both of these top fights remain intact for the June card, this is a stronger lineup on pay-per-view but is also a considerably higher cost given the fighters involved and also that Madison Square Garden is a very expensive building to book and that’s one of the reasons the WWE has run the Barclays Center more often.

**The Clark County District Court in Las Vegas found former UFC and Bellator fighter Jon Koppenhaver (War Machine) guilty on 29 of the 34 counts he was facing regarding a brutal assault on ex-girlfriend Christy Mack and her friend Corey Thomas in 2014. Koppenhaver will be sentenced in June and it is possible that he could go to prison for life over the charges.

**MMA Junkie reported on Monday that a heavyweight fight between Derrick Lewis and Mark Hunt is being targeted for a June 11th date in Auckland, New Zealand at the Vector Arena. Lewis has won six straight fights and most recently stopped Travis Browne in their main event bout in Halifax, Nova Scotia last month. Hunt just fought at UFC 209 earlier this month and was stopped by Alistair Overeem in the third round.

**Cris “Cyborg” Justino has released a video where she has announced that she is relinquishing the Invicta FC featherweight title, which she won back in July of 2013 and last defended in January of 2016. Cyborg also stated in the video that she wants to fight UFC women’s featherweight champion Germaine de Randamie on July 29th at the UFC 214 card that is scheduled for Anaheim, California. Cyborg’s previous two fights have been at 140 pounds with victories over Leslie Smith and Lina Lansberg in the UFC, both of which resulted in Cyborg cutting an extreme amount of weight and led to several months of problems after the Lansberg fight.

**Bellator’s pay-per-view card for June 24th at Madison Square Garden continues to grow. In addition to the Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva and Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione fights announced, they have added a pair of title bouts to the card. The L.A. Times’ Lance Pugmire was the first to report that recently signing Lorenz Larkin will challenge Douglas Lima on the show for the Bellator welterweight title and Bellator has also added a lightweight title fight with Michael Chandler defending against Brett Primus. Bellator will also have an 8-10pm window on Spike that night leading into the pay-per-view.

**The UFC has announced that Derek Brunson will fight Dan Kelly on the recently announced Fight Night event in Auckland, New Zealand on June 10th. Since coming of the TUF Nations reality series, Kelly has gone a remarkable 6-1 inside the UFC and won his last four fights, including a split decision win over former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans earlier this month at UFC 209. Brunson is coming off a decision loss to Anderson Silva at UFC 208 in February, which was heavily disputed at the time with 84% of the MMA media that scored the fight having it scored for Brunson. The New Zealand show will be headlined by heavyweights Mark Hunt and Derrick Lewis and they have also announced a flyweight bout between Joseph Benavidez and Ben Nguyen.

**Bellator held a press conference this week in New York City to promote their pay-per-view event at Madison Square Garden on June 24th. Wanderlei Silva did not attend the press conference and joined them by satellite and didn’t give much of a reason for not attending other than he’s training to beat Chael Sonnen. Bellator noted that this pay-per-view is not a “one off” and represents a commitment to pay-per-view as a revenue stream but will not be doing monthly events for the sake of it and will build up cards that are pay-per-view worthy. There are four fights announced so far for the pay-per-view and one more fight will be added at a later date. There will also be an 8-10pm slot on Spike TV ahead of the pay-per-view. The event is going to be priced at $49.95. Below is the current card for the pay-per-view:
*Chael Sonnen vs. Wanderlei Silva
*Fedor Emelianenko vs. Matt Mitrione
*Michael Chandler vs. Brent Primus for the lightweight title
*Douglas Lima vs. Lorenz Larkin for the welterweight title

They have also added a featherweight fight between James Gallagher and Chinzo Machida for the Spike TV portion and Aaron Pico will also be making his pro MMA debut on the card.

**The UFC has announced that a heavyweight fight has been booked for their June 17th Fight Night event in Singapore between Andrei Arlovski and Marcin Tybura along with a lightweight fight between Takanori Gomi and Jon Tuck.

**ESPN’s Brett Okamoto broke the news that Donald Cerrone and Robbie Lawler will fight and it will take place at UFC 213 on Saturday July 8th as part of International Fight Week in Las Vegas. The two were expected to fight at UFC 205 last November but Lawler needed to take time off. Lawler has not fought since losing the welterweight title to Tyron Woodley last July at UFC 201 and has since departed American Top Team and was recently spotted working with the new Combat Club out of Florida under Henri Hooft. Lawler was seen working with Anthony Johnson on this week’s UFC 210 countdown special.

**USADA announced on Wednesday that UFC heavyweight Justin Ledet has accepted a four-month suspension after failing an out-of-competition drug test on January 12th. Ledet was able to successfully prove he had taken a tainted supplement, of which he declared the supplement when he was tested and it was discovered the product had an unlabeled substance in it. Ledet is eligible to return to fight this June. The 28-year old is 2-0 in the UFC and 8-0 with one no contest in his career with victories over Chase Sherman and Mark Godbeer in 2016.

**Daniel Cormier was a guest on The MMA Hour on Monday and stated that he woke up on Friday morning at 5:30am Eastern and weighed 212 pounds. Cormier repeated that his scale stated he was at 205 pounds when he stepped onto the scale at weigh-ins at 206.2 pounds he wanted to go back and check again because he believed he was on weight. He stated he put on “over twenty pounds” by the time he stepped into the octagon.

**The UFC returns this weekend with a FOX card from Kansas City, Missouri and will be headlined by Demetrious Johnson defending the UFC flyweight title against Wilson Reis (this fight was originally booked for last July at UFC 201 but Johnson had to pull out due to injury). The main card also features Michelle Waterson fighting Rose Namajunas and an important middleweight fight between Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Robert Whittaker.

**Ariel Helwani reported today that this Saturday’s fight is the final fight on Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza’s UFC contract.

**Larry Hazzard Sr. of the New Jersey State Athletic Control Board issued a release today on behalf of his office to encourage other commissions to adopt instant replay for mixed martial arts. The NJSAC was the first commission to introduce instant replay back in 2007 and comes after Saturday’s controversial finish to the Gegard Mousasi vs. Chris Weidman fight. One of the issues coming out of the fighter was the utilization of instant replay to determine if the knee strike from Mousasi was illegal or not and instant replay is now allowed by the New York State Athletic Commission.

**The UFC has released details for International Fight Week this July in Las Vegas. Instead of three consecutive nights of live cards, this year they will have two with the TUF Finale on Friday night and UFC 213 on Saturday with both shows scheduled for the T-Mobile Arena. They are also moving the Hall of Fame ceremony to Thursday night as a way to kick off the weekend of events. On Saturday’s broadcast, they announced that Cody Garbrandt vs. T.J. Dillashaw will take place on the pay-per-view and that Urijah Faber will be entering the Hall of Fame in the “Modern Day” category.

**MMA Fighting’s Ariel Helwani reports that the rematch between Daniel Cormier and Jon Jones is expected to take place at UFC 214 on July 29th in Anaheim, California at the Honda Center. Earlier this week, Dana White had stated that the option is there for Jones to challenge Cormier on that date or else he would move forward with Cormier vs. Jimi Manuwa for the same date. Earlier this month, Cormier announced he was getting married at the end of May and then planning to go on a honeymoon. With a July 29th date, it could cut short Cormier’s plans as that would coincide with his camp beginning. Cormier and Jones fought in January 2015 at UFC 182 with Jones winning by unanimous decision but was later stripped of his light heavyweight title with Cormier becoming the interim champion and eventually recognized as the sole champion of the division. Jones has not fought since UFC 197 in April 2016 with a decision victory over Ovince Saint Preux and was pulled from UFC 200 just days before his scheduled rematch with Cormier after failing an out-of-competition drug test. Jones received a one-year suspension for the test failure and will be eligible to return as of July 6th.

**Former WEC bantamweight champion Miguel Torres has announced his retirement from the sport at the age of 36. Torres turned pro in 2000 and amassed one of the busiest careers in recent memory and won 37 of his first 38 pro fights. Torres became a star fighting for the WEC organization and became the promotion’s bantamweight champion in 2008 by defeating Chase Beebe and holding it until August 2009 when he dropped the title to Brian Bowles. He was moved to the UFC after the WEC was shut down and went 2-2 with wins over Antonio Banuelos and Nick Pace and suffered a narrow split decision loss to Demetrious Johnson in May 2011 when Johnson was still competing at bantamweight and his final fight for the UFC was a knockout loss to Michael McDonald in April 2012. Torres continued his career with the World Series of Fighting and lost twice for that organization and fought for four more times in 2014 before scaling back and only fighting once in 2015 with his final fight in September of last year where he defeated Lloyd Carter for the United Combat League out of Indiana. At one point in time, Torres was one of the best bantamweights in the world and could have been a superstar had he been fighting in the UFC during his prime on their platform.

**The World Series of Fighting organization announced earlier this week that they will be transforming to the Professional Fighter’s League in 2018 with a new concept and new funding for the venture. The WSOF brand will continue to hold their remaining events for 2017 and flip their format in January. The idea is to hold fights in seven weight classes with a regular season format and followed by playoffs and championship over the course of ten-months. Fighters were notified of the changes and alerted that they would be paid a monthly salary under the new company and assured that they will be given a minimum of three fights per year. They have yet to announce what weight classes they will be featuring and there are a lot of questions over the logistics of a seasonal format and possible problems they could run into. One of the lessons learned from the IFL and later Bellator’s tournament format was the handicap of being tied to a structure where you are not in control of your own matchmaking and therefore not able to make the fights that have the greatest public interest, which is key to combat sports. Under this format, fighters will have their regular season fights and theoretically you are talking about 2-3 fights max during a seasonal period and then more fights in a playoff scenario and that’s stretching fighters thin to fight that many times in a year without the expectation there are going to be fighters hurt and unable to fight. The owners of the group have raised a ton of capital so they have solid financial footing for the venture. Under the WSOF banner, they have run events dating back to November 2012 and have been broadcast on the NBC Sports Network but that TV deal is up at the end of 2017.

**Conor McGregor has made TIME’s annual list of the 100 most influential people.

**In shocking news, Travis Browne & Ronda Rousey just happened to be wandering the streets and a camera from TMZ just happened to catch them and just happened to notice a ring on Rousey’s finger and the couple just happened to drop the news that they are engaged.

**The UFC is running a Fight Night card from Nashville, Tennessee on Saturday night at the Bridgestone Arena with the following lineup:

MAIN CARD (10pm Eastern on FS 1, TSN 5 in Canada)
*Cub Swanson vs. Artem Lobov
*Al Iaquinta vs. Diego Sanchez
*Ovince Saint Preux vs. Marcos Rogerio de Lima – de Lima came in at 210 pounds and was fined 30% of his purse instead of 20% because this is the second straight fight he has missed weight for, this will now be a catchweight bout
*John Dodson vs. Eddie Wineland
*Joe Lauzon vs. Stevie Ray
*Jake Ellenberger vs. Mike Perry

PRELIMINARY FIGHTS (8pm on FS 2, Fight Network in Canada)
*Sam Alvey vs. Thales Leites
*Dustin Ortiz vs. Brandon Moreno
*Scott Holtzman vs. Michael McBride
*Jessica Penne vs. Danielle Taylor

FIGHT PASS CARD (6:30pm)
*Alexis Davis vs. Cindy Dandois
*Joe Proctor vs. Bryan Barberena
*Hector Sandoval vs. Matt Schnell

**The two-hour season premiere of TUF 25 averaged 288,000 viewers on FS 1 this past Wednesday night for the “Redemption” season. The number is way down from the premiere of Season 24 last September, which did 370,000 (flyweight season) and the Season 23 premiere that did 479,000 (Joanna Jedrzejczyk and Claudia Gadelha as the coaches). This season features all former fighters that competed on the show with fighters paid $10,000 per fight in the house with a $5,000 finishing bonus and the grand prize is $250,000 for the winner. On Week 1, Gilbert Smith defeated Seth Baczynksi and the fight next week will feature Tom Gallicchio fighting Eddie Gordon.

**MMA Fighting was the first to report that Bellator was close to signing free agent Valerie Letourneau and on Monday the signing was made official. Letourneau had new fighting for the UFC since June 2014 and the two sides mutually went their separate ways after Letourneau’s third consecutive loss this past December to Viviane Pereira at UFC 206 in Toronto. Letourneau’s biggest fight for the promotion came at UFC 193 in November 2015 where she lost a decision to Joanna Jedrzejczyk for the strawweight title. Letourneau had been adamant that she cannot continue to fight at 115 pounds and by signing with Bellator, this will allow her to fight at a much more reasonable weight of 125 pounds.

**Rising UFC welterweight prospect Tom Breese has announced that he will out for a long time after tearing his right ACL and meniscus. Breese trains out of Montreal with the Tristar Gym and began his pro career with ten consecutive wins, which included three for the UFC before suffering his first defeat in his last fight to Sean Strickland at UFC 199 last June.

**Bellator light heavyweight champion Phil Davis announced on The MMA Hour this past Monday that he is taking the spot of Muhammed “King Mo” Lawal at the Bellator 180 event on Saturday June 24th at Madison Square Garden. Lawal was originally set to fight Ryan Bader in the main event of the Spike TV portion, which would serve as a lead in for the pay-per-view at 10pm but Lawal had to remove himself due to an injury. The Spike portion will now feature Davis defending the light heavyweight title against Bader in a rematch from January 2015. The two fought in Stockholm, Sweden with Bader winning by split decision that night and was Davis’ last fight with the UFC.

**The UFC has announced a return to Canada with UFC 216 set to take place on Saturday September 9th at the Rogers Place in Edmonton, Alberta. It is the first time the UFC has run an event in the city, although the WEC did run a card in the city in June 2010 after Zuffa had purchased the company. This is the first time the UFC has returned to Alberta since the UFC 149 event in July 2012, which featured numerous changes to the card and ended being a pretty bad main card (although the prelims were strong). There are no fights announced yet this far out and they have not yet announced when tickets will go on sale in the market.

**UFC welterweight champion Tyron Woodley has announced that he will be fighting in July and that the date and opponent will be announced soon.

**Following his win over Artem Lobov last weekend in Nashville, Cub Swanson discovered that he broke his left hand during the fight. Swanson is in a cast and isn’t sure when he broke it but stated that it is the tenth time in his career he has suffered a broken hand. Swanson defeated Lobov by unanimous decision in their five-round main event featherweight bout.

**UFC president Dana White briefly spoke to members of the boxing media after Saturday’s Saul “Canelo” Alvarez win over Julio Cesar Chavez Jr. After the fight, it was announced that Alvarez will fight Gennady Golovkin on September 16th on HBO. White revealed that was the targeted date for the Conor McGregor vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. fight and noted “we just lost our date” at the start of his scrum with the media:

**The most problematic division within the UFC is at middleweight. The frustration amongst the various contenders at 185 pounds has boiled over with Anderson Silva being the latest to voice his issues publically. Silva was a guest on The MMA Hour this past Monday and spoke for 40-minutes on his anger with the UFC, being lied to and upset over the fact that Georges St-Pierre is getting a title fight and that he wants an interim title fight with Yoel Romero at UFC 212 next month or else he is done. Silva stated in the interview that when he signed his new contract, UFC officials told him that would match him with St-Pierre for a big fight. The delay in finding a date for Michael Bisping and Georges St-Pierre has caused a massive logjam in the division where everyone is running in place and a title fight between Bisping and St-Pierre seems highly unlikely for UFC 213 in July, which was the date the UFC was targeting. Silva is currently without an opponent for UFC 212 next month after Kelvin Gastelum was suspended and removed from the card. Yoel Romero called in during the interview and both he and Silva want the fight but it needs to be an interim title.

**Meanwhile, Dana White has called Silva's bluff.

**The Wall Street Journal has reported that Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta have formed a new investment company called Fertitta Capital. The privately owned group will focus on investing in companies based in technology, media and entertainment with the brothers putting up $500 million to launch the company. They will be placing Nakisa Bidarian in place as the C.E.O. of the group with Bidarian previously working as the UFC’s chief financial officer. This is the first major move made by the Feritta brothers since selling the majority of their ownership of the UFC to WME-IMG for just under $4 billion.

**Newly signed female flyweight Valerie Letourneau announced Monday on The MMA Hour that she will make her Bellator MMA debut on July 14th against Emily Ducote.

**Georges St-Pierre posted a quick video on Friday addressing Michael Bisping and stating that St-Pierre has cleared his scheduled for a training camp and can fight any time after October and is allowing Bisping to choose a date after that. There is a lot of frustration among the middleweight division because of the title being on ice until this fight takes place. The two were part of a press conference back in March to formally announce the fight but no date or venue was listed. The UFC and Bisping both wanted the fight to take place on July 8th during International Fight Week but the St-Pierre side has been pushing for a fall date.

**There was a major snafu on the UFC’s end this past week with the accidental release that the next season of Ultimate Fighter would be designed to create a women’s flyweight division at 125 pounds. Hours after the press release was issued, Dana White spoke to Kevin Iole at Yahoo and said it was only be considered as an idea and they have not made a decision on the addition of another women’s weight class. Many of the women in the UFC have called for the 125-pound class to be added because of the large gap between strawweight (115 pounds) and bantamweight (135 pounds).

**UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor and his long-time girlfriend, Dee Devlin, has the couple’s first child this past Friday. The couple had a boy and have named him Conor Jack McGregor.

**Former middleweight champion Anderson Silva announced on Sunday night that he is shutting down his training camp and it is believed he is now off the UFC 212 card on June 3rd in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Silva was originally scheduled to fight Kelvin Gastelum on the card but Gastelum was removed after failing a fight night drug test in March after his win over Vitor Belfort. Silva was campaigning for an interim title fight with Yoel Romero on the card and went so far as to state if he doesn’t receive the fight he is “done”. UFC president Dana White responded and said they will not be doing an interim title fight and encouraged Silva to retire if he’s thinking about it.

**Below are the first 3 episodes of UFC Embedded for UFC 211 this weekend:

**This Saturday’s UFC 211 card will feature Jon Anik, Joe Rogan and Daniel Cormier calling the event from Dallas, Texas.

**UFC president Dana White was guest with Colin Cowherd earlier this week and said that they lost their date of September 16th between Floyd Mayweather Jr. and Conor McGregor because they couldn’t get the deal done yet. White said that both sides are making it difficult to get the deal done and said that there is a “drop dead” point where White says he will walk away from attempting to put the fight together.

**After last week’s premature press release, the UFC has now confirmed that the next season of TUF will be the launch of the women’s 125-pound flyweight division. A press release was sent out last week announcing the news, but hours later Dana White told Kevin Iole it was sent prematurely and it was something still being discussed. Many women have called for the addition of a 125-pound weight class given the large gap between the strawweight and bantamweight divisions. The news was reported by ESPN W and the season will crown the division’s first champion on the finale with filming beginning in July.

**Kelvin Gastelum announced on The MMA Hour this past Monday that he has his next fight booked for July but couldn’t reveal the opponent or the date. He added that he will be in Dallas later this week and may be part of the big press conference on Friday to announce all of the major fights for the summer. Gastelum is currently under suspension after his post-fight drug test came back positive for marijuana metabolites above the allowable threshold and his win over Vitor Belfort was changed to a no contest.

**The UFC 211 card took place on Saturday night from the American Airlines Center in Dallas with an announced attendance of 17,834 and a gate of $2,662,645. That is a higher gate figure than the last time they ran the venue in March 2015 for the UFC 185 card with Anthony Pettis vs. Rafael dos Anjos headlining that card. Here are the full results from the show:
*Gadzhimurad Antigulov def. Joachim Christensen by rear-naked choke at 2:21 of Round 1
*Enrique Barzola def. Gabriel Benitez by unanimous decision (29-28 all)
*Cortney Casey def. Jessica Aguilar by unanimous decision (30-27 all)
*James Vick def. Marco Polo Reyes by TKO at 2:39 of Round 1 – Vick is now 7-1 in the UFC’s lightweight and said he wants to fight the winner of Kevin Lee vs. Michael Chiesa
*Chase Sherman def. Rashad Coulter by KO at 3:36 of Round 2 – This was the fight of the night and turned into an incredible war. Sherman destroyed the left leg of Coutler, who could barely stand on it yet kept fighting back and starting to land some big shots on Sherman. The audience was going crazy for this fight right up until the end when Sherman dropped him with a right elbow, this was a great fight.
*Jason Knight def. Chas Skelly by TKO at 0:39 of Round 3 – Knight has such an entertaining style and is one of the most flexible grapplers off his back with an omaplata and gogoplata attempt. He would with a left hand followed by a right uppercut and strikes on the ground and is a big win for Knight as Skelly is a tough featherweight.
*Eddie Alvarez and Dustin Poirier fought to a no contest at 4:12 of Round 2 – This was an excellent fight up until the end when Alvarez landed a pair of illegal knees the fight was called off. Poirier had his hand down for the first knee and his knee was down for the second knee to the head and said afterward he was flashed from the last knee. Poirier was doing really well and had significantly damaged the left eye of Alvarez with his strikes. This is a fight you could easily run back.
*David Branch def. Krzysztof Jotko by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – This was not a good fight and even Branch was really critical of his performance and the fight.
*Frankie Edgar def. Yair Rodriguez by TKO (doctor stoppage) at 5:00 of Round 2 – This was a one-sided mauling by Edgar. He was able to get Rodriguez down and once he did he punished him with a 10-8 first round and more of the same in the second. The left eye of Rodriguez was hideous and totally shut. Kevin Iole, who is a long time reporter covering MMA and Boxing said it was one of the worst eyes he has ever seen after a fight. It was clear Rodriguez wasn’t ready for this jump in competition and now puts the featherweight picture in an interest dilemma as Edgar would surely fight Max Holloway if he wins on June 3rd but becomes tougher if Jose Aldo wins as Aldo has two clear cut victories over Edgar.
*Demian Maia def. Jorge Masvidal by split decision (29-28, 28-29, 29-28) – Masvidal is never on the right side of a split decision and this continued that trend. This was a fascinating fight and played out as you would expect with Masvidal controlling the striking and Maia eventually got Masvidal down and dominated the grappling portion, which was the portion of the fight rewarded more and Maia got the decision. Maia dominated the first round by taking his back right until the end when he was shaken off and Masvidal landed some strikes. Maia asked Dana White at cage side after the fight if he gets the next title fight and was told by White that he will as he has now won seven in a row.
*Joanna Jedrzejczyk def. Jessica Andrade by unanimous decision (50-44, 50-45, 50-45) to retain the UFC strawweight title – Jedrzejczyk put on a masterful performance and was in a different league with her striking. Jedrzejczyk was too fast (although she was hit in the fight and had a massive hematoma on her forehead all fight long) but would circle and combined her jabs with head kicks and Andrade walked through it all and took lots of damage.
*Stipe Miocic def. Junior dos Santos by TKO at 2:22 of Round 1 to retain the UFC heavyweight title – Miocic was hit with leg kicks and was limping but his striking was on point and he was lighting up dos Santos as he backed him up against the fence. Miocic dropped him with a right hand and finished on top with rapid fire shots and has now won five straight, which is incredible given the game of inches that the heavyweight division is.

**The Fight of the Night bonus went to Chase Sherman and Rashad Coulter and the Performance bonuses went to Stipe Miocic and Jason Knight for $50,000 each.

**During the broadcast, it was announced that former matchmaker Joe Silva will be inducted into the UFC Hall of Fame on Thursday July 7th in Las Vegas. Silva ended his 16-year tenure as matchmaker at the end of 2016 and is considered one of the major reasons for the UFC’s rise from 2001 onward. Silva succeeded John Peretti as the promotion’s matchmaker and was recommended to Dana White by Tito Ortiz at the time of the purchase by the Fertitta brothers in 2001. There was no video package for Silva on the broadcast but given how rare he speaks in public, his speech will be one of the highlights of International Fight Week. Silva joins Urijah Faber and Maurice Smith to the class of 2017. The lone remaining entrant for this year’s class will be a classic fight from UFC history.

**The UFC returns on Sunday May 28th for an afternoon card in Stockholm, Sweden that is headlined by Alexander Gustafsson and Glover Teixeira. That card will begin on Fight Pass at 9:30am Eastern and the main card airs at 1pm on FS 1.
