NBA RM Draft
When: Beginning Monday, December 14
Where: This thread
Who: Anybody who wants to participate
What: We will draft a team of NBA players (15 per team). The goal is to have the highest performing team (based on scoring described below) over the next three seasons.

--This is NOT fantasy sports, there will NOT be any roster management, trades, waivers, etc. We draft next week and our rosters are what they are for the next three seasons. It's basically just all of us predicting who we think will be better and worse over that span of time.

--Because this isn't fantasy, roster construction doesn't matter. The goal is not to construct a coherent roster, it is to earn the highest score possible. So it doesn't matter if you draft three ball dominant guys who could never really share the court or if half your roster is point guards. Draft the best 15 guys you can based on the scoring criteria below.

--We will used an advanced statistic known as win shares for most of the scoring. Win shares is a stat that attempts to estimate the number of wins contributed by a player. It includes both offensive and defensive performance, and unlike some other good advanced metrics like PER and VORP, WS take into account how much a person plays. So WS rewards guys who not only play well but stay healthy and play a lot.

--Playoff win shares will count for this as well.

--We will use the numbers provided by Basketball Reference for our official scoring. That link will take you to 2019-2020 advanced stats, sort by WS to get an idea of the scoring and the players that do well by that measurement.

--Bonus scoring categories: In addition to regular season and playoff win shares, there will be several additional ways for players to earn points, we'll call them achievement bonuses.

C'mon spike, if you get a top two pick you can probably have Giannis on your team for the next three years no matter what he does!
