Well, Tebow just lost a chunk of my respect. Good thing for him he's got lots of equity there built up from that 2011 wild card game.

The NCAA Board of Governors has taken the first step toward allowing athletes to cash in on their fame. The board voted unanimously on Tuesday to clear the way for the amateur athletes to “benefit from the use of their name, image and likeness.”

The vote came during a meeting at Emory University in Atlanta.

In a news release, board chair Michael V. Drake said the board realized that it “must embrace change to provide the best possible experience for college athletes.”

Ok, so let’s start forcing senators who “cash in” on their public service to have the same health care as the least of their constituents, and they’ll get taxed at the highest rate for the rest of their lives and are only allowed to use the standard deduction. Let’s go ahead and tack on a wealth tax too.

It’s public service right Mr Burr?

Now that they'd have to pay each individual player to license their name and image?

My good buddy was a walk-on that eventually earned a scholarship at Mizzou. He appeared in two NCAA football games and got like $400-$500 out of the lawsuit settlement. I wonder what a new pay structure would look like.

If we could blow the whole things up and start over, professional football and basketball should indeed have farm systems of their own, like baseball and hockey, with whatever college athletics that remain relegated to about the same status that college baseball is now. But we can't. There's too much equity built up in those college sports. Best we can do is change those to make them fairer to the players.

Pooled compensation. Supposedly, this type of compensation would be easiest since no individual player bargains.

Anyone see this story about Emoni Bates? Hardly anyone recruiting him because they all assume he can go straight to the NBA in 2022 (new rules in place by then).

Then seeing this James Wiseman story ... I'm surprised these top flight guys even go to college anymore. There's the occasional guy who skips that year of college to play pro overseas ... I'm surprised you don't see that more, or something else in place of a year in an NCAA school. I think you gotta keep playing real, competitive games but shit, who knows ... maybe that's not even very important for a world-class athlete. Maybe just work out and get shots up.

Thinking out loud ... no real point to this post ... carry on.
