I watched the world athletics championships yesterday and was thinking that there is still some justice in this world because they use metric system, but that it must be really confusing for you Americans.

Not really. We are used to global sports using the metric system.
Is it really necessary for baseball teams to put on new uniforms before the second game of a doubleheader?
I think so, they get dirty and sweaty - maybe their shirts get a little ripped from a play at the plate? Hockey players swap jerseys in between periods.

Wrong.
It’s stupid and by your logic they should also change before heading into extra innings.
If it's 90+ degrees out and you sweat through your uniform in Game 1, then the uni is now heavier, so I can understand why you'd want the option to put on a new, dry shirt. I would also want to change my underwear and jock strap.
