The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.

Does anyone here really care which announcer is calling the game?
Like would that influence whether or not you watch any given game?
Specifically NFL.
I will watch every single Miami Dolphins game no matter what if I can. But I do prefer some broadcasters over others definitely. FOX and ESPN tend to have the worst, IMO

Why can’t other sports let the two guys who started it just fight one-on-one like they do in hockey?

JFC wease. Baseball.
If all the other sports just let the two guys who started it fight one-on-one think how boring that would be. A good ol’ bench-clearing brawl is a lot more fun to watch than just two dudes going at it.

I enjoy hearing regional coverage from cities I've never been to. Particularly with baseball. Hearing a good color guy from a city I may never visit is a bit like eavesdropping at an airport bar on a weekday.

The point of my question: Are networks fooling themselves by paying someone like Troy Aikman infinitely more to call games than he ever made playing games? I think so. People are gonna watch NFL football no matter what and it’s more about the teams on the field in any given game. To ST’s point a lot of games are watched on mute. I do it at home when multitasking and certainly when you’re at a crowded bar with multiple different games on.

Their investments in getting someone like Aikman or Brady to host or be a commentator has little to do with viewership. It won’t move the needle. It has more to do with the things they do outside of the broadcast. Playing golf with advertisers, doing speaking engagements or dinners with partners, showing up at social events. Brady’s social appearances will be more important than anything he does while commentating on a game.
Imagine being a prospective big dollar advertiser and if you decide to spend money with the network you play golf several times a year with Brady. That’s what they’re paid for. They’re an investment with a large return.
