Here's an interesting story that made think of this thread: basically, one of the top baseball pitching prospects was drafted by the Braves 8th overall last year and refused to sign for the amount they offered. He was set to re-enter the draft this year, but instead decided to sign a 7-year deal with a Japanese team. If he plays out the string with them, he'll be eligible to enter MLB as a free agent when he's 25 because he'll count as an international free agent due to his time played in Japan (so the Japanese team will have to enter him into the post system, a la Ichiro and Ohtani and etc). Haven't heard of any cases like this one before.
