Holy hell, that was a workout. My hands are so swollen my ring won’t fit on my finger.

So glad you're still alive. Whew.

There was a second there when I didn’t think I’d make it.

In all seriousness, this is the kind of workout I’ve been looking for. I feel it in muscles I haven’t used in a while, and the nature of the routes makes this mentally engaging as well. I found that once the beginner routes got boring, the next step up presented unique problems to solve. Some I cleared, others kicked me ass. I want to go back and try to get it again.
I was doing harnessed 40 foot climbs, but I imagine straight up bouldering would be even more difficult.
Maybe I’ll go back a couple more times with a day pass and decide if I want to get a monthly membership. It’s pretty far from my house though. Like a 45 minute drive.

What appeals to me most about climbing is that while workout bros can brute force up a route and get to the top, it's the intelligent climber who wins in the end. Using your body in an efficient way and thinking like an engineer to distribute your weight and balance yourself is the way to go. I'm feeling it now in my upper arms and shoulders big time, but I realize that's in part because I wasn't using my legs nearly enough. You've got to be graceful like a tree frog up there.

Gonna watch Free Solo tonight. Got Hulu free with Spotify.

tree, I watched Free Solo last night. I could handle watching Honnold take this on, and I could even handle watching his girlfriend cope with it, but what I almost couldn’t handle was the anxiety that Jimmy Chin and crew went through before and during the filming of it all.

Zero feet. I lied about climbing. I'm pretty scared of heights.

I feel so bad for letting you down. I hope you're not upset with me.

I care not. Just making conversation.
Check out Alex’s notes on the climb.

Cool.
I love how at the end it says:
About the Author: Alex Honnold, 33, is an aspiring sport climber.
It's like saying Michael Jordan at his peak was an aspiring basketball player.
