Simple Torture wrote: Would love for them to pull off like 7 in a row to clinch. Would hate to back into the playoffs with a Yankees loss. Clinched a spot in at least the play-in game tonight (lol @ MLB considering that a postseason round). Backing into a spot is when the loss is required to get in. Not just "hey this is the thing that finally clinched the inevitable" |

Not just "hey this is the thing that finally clinched the inevitable" I was thinking more of how it can affect the team's feeling down the stretch. When they lost to the Yankees on a walk-off grand slam in 2016 but clinched the playoff spot because Baltimore happened to lose at the same time, it felt like backing into the playoffs. It set a horrible tone (they were 1-5 the last week of the season) and you could feel that sweep coming from Cleveland. |

Everyone in contention is "on the way" to the World Series. Will Boston get there? |

I honestly can't believe they haven't met in the playoffs since '04. |

Before this Wild Card play-in game they both had to advance to the ALCS, it's alot more likely going forward. |

If the Red Sox beat the Yankees and then the ALCS goes to a 6th game, I'll be there. |

I also have vivid memories of that Nixon walk-off. Man, that 2003 run was awesome. |

From August 18th: Simple Torture wrote: spike wrote: what are this team's weaknesses, if any? Middle bullpen and Kimbrel's new love of walking people and giving up HRs (1.8 BB/9 last year, 4.1 BB/9 this year; 0.6 career HR/9, this season it's double that at 1.3 HR/9). Man, I wish I wasn't so fucking right all the time. BTW Kimbrel finished the year with 4.5 BB/9 and 1.0 HR/9. Dangerous numbers. |

I got that sick nervous queasy feeling in my stomach during the first inning tonight (that I didn't get until the 7th inning Friday). Why do we watch sports again? |
