Haha, what's funny is in all the US press I'm seeing it just says "$500m". But the first two Canadian articles I looked at it both were explicit about the deal being "worth $500M US". So there's the answer. I'm sure they pay him in CAD, but for reasons of comparing it to Trout and Soto deals, the number is in USD

I’m sure most players in TOR keep US residency in a state with low tax rates, although from what I understand players get taxed in each state they play games in, at least in baseball.

I wonder if his accountant has to make adjustments to his earnings for changing exchange rates. Not to mention that fluctuations in the strength of the dollar could lead Canadian players to suddenly be undervalued. That would be a pain in the ass. And he earns most of his money, or at least around half of it, on U.S. soil so that's also got to be a pain.
Come to think of it, the accounting alone may explain why it's difficult to run an MLB organization in Canada.

I wonder if it's actually easier for them because he's a Canadian national? I know he grew up in the DR but he's a natural-born citizen.
I know its the pirates and it is to be expected but holy shit
first the remove a clemente sign from a foul pole and put up an advertisement
clemente jr went on a rant on twitter about how he is saddened and dismayed with this (the pirates have since put the number 21 back up) and how he wasnt consulted and went on how his father was a grreat guy who helped the poorr people of his country etc... his father is a saint in this city as he should be. his son is a different story. I met and chatted with him for about 20-30 minutes at the clemente museum here in the city. he was a nice guy to talk to and seemed engaging. but he also left early so he could go attend the trump rally in the city that day. not so sure how he can justify claiming his father his a humanitarian and endorse a guy who is a anti humanitarian
now they took the "bricks" and dumped them
the bricks are bought and people put family names on them. they were displayed and people could take their picture and what not of them in front of their bricks. turns out the pirates got rid of all those bricks and recycled them

1) the Pirates must have about about the most awful ownership since the Indians in Major League.
2) I sure do enjoy seeing the Detroit Tigers put their spikes firmly on the Yankees back and push them down toward .500. Kind of torpedoing their flagship, if one were inclined to that kind of joke.
