The fact Stone is winning this poll really makes me realize how bad the grunge guitarists are. There's certainly no Slash

Kurt inspired me to pick up a guitar, and even now, I still think his playing is great; really visceral but often slightly weird in unexpected ways.

So, Kurt for me, but Kim Thayil and Corgan are pretty fanastic too.

This post makes me realize why people say you're the worst poster/troll on the board. By the way, Slash played in a band with Scott Weiland, they were really bad.

Stone isn't winning right now, but we're on RM where there was even a subset of posters calling themselves "Stone's Bitch" for a while, is that really surprising?

If Stone is here then we need to add Eddie Vedder

Slash is like...100x the guitar player that Stone Gossard is. Stone is not good. When you listen to PJ live, you are more often distracted by bad guitar playing than impressed by good guitar playing, at least as far as stone goes.

I really want you to post some videos of what you hear as Stone's poor guitar playing, because I'm mystified as to what you're hearing.

He's right, though. PJ's live guitaring is godawful.

When I think of my all-time favorite guitarists, none of these guys come to mind -- they all work fine in their bands, but I certainly wouldn't seek any of them out beyond that just to hear them play guitar. But when I think of some of my all-time favorite individual guitar solos, Dean DeLeo lays claim to a few -- "Lady Picture Show" and "Bi-Polar Bear" in particular. So he gets my vote.

Fun fact: my favorite guitar lead in a Smashing Pumpkins song was played by Billy Corgan's dad.

I picked Dean and Billy. I love Dean's guitar tones and he's a pretty unique player with some huge riffs and great solos. Billy just seems like he has it all when it comes to the guitar. The guy can do anything. He's the complete package.

1. Dean is awesome and way underrated. The solo on Bi-Polar bear is breathtakingly beautiful. I could put that on repeat for hours.

2. Which Pumpkins song does Billy's dad play on? I don't know this story.

I cant believe anybody could compare Stones LIVE playing to Slash's live playing. Stone sounds like an amateur. Especially when he plays a song like Black. Yes he played Brain of J well in that one clip that keeps being posted.

Ive been impressed by mike before though, though he's hit or miss (Yellow Ledbetter is sometimes a disaster) and I am frequently impressed by Jeff who I think is crazy underrated. Hes very good

Please post a video where Stone plays Black badly, I need to understand this.

"Stone is awful -- whenever he plays guitar it sounds like a crappy 128kbps mp3 transcode!"
