Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)

I think JJ Abrams did a good job with the two Star Trek movies, and the quality dropped drastically for the third movie that he didn't direct (a movie that relied more on pure action, silly humor and a boring twist). The only problem was that all three Abrams movies (Trek 1 and 2 and TFA), all felt like they were reusing old ideas. Now, there are few old ideas to use, and no old actors. Still if he can deliver up to his very best once again, I am confident that this movie can be the best of the sequel trilogy.

I love Abrams. I love what he did with TFA. I've said from the very beginning that I wanted to see JJ come back and finish off this new trilogy. I'm over the moon that he's back and I can't wait to see what he delivers.

Wonder how jj will deal with wrapping up storylines of characters like chewie, the droids, etc. I imagine there will be something in this movie about it. Let's wait and see

I hope Chewie lives. I hope he gets to keep the Falcon, too.

The only reason Chewie doesn't make it is if they want to kill off an OT character in the final act.

Can you imagine the emotional impact of R2 and Chewie on the Falcon as part of a suicide mission that ultimately saves the day - losing all three (and the Falcon is definitely a character)

That would be the most devastating moment in star wars history

Spoiler: show
other than most of the prequels

I've famously said that I don't get everyone's love for the Falcon. I said before TLJ came out that I really wanted that fucking thing destroyed in The Last Jedi.

Well... I take that back now too. That moment
Spoiler: show
during the battle of Crait, when we see the Falcon's shadow before we see the ship itself,
I did a full arm fist pump and my wife beamed over at me
.

I realized then and there how much that ship actually means to me. That was one of my favorite scenes in The Last Jedi.

Also, yeah, you don't kill the family dog.

Chewie might be the only character that's 100% safe. They won't kill him off.

but can you imagine the moment?

Re: Star Wars: Episode IX (2019)

I guess the reason you don't do it is at the falcon (and chewie) don't have aging actors attached to them so they can always reappear when you return to this moment in history 10 years from now after RJ's new trilogy

Oh totally. It would be heartbreaking and beyond powerful.

I mean, Chewie keeps getting younger!

But I also don't expect to see any known characters in Rian's new trilogy.

Yeah I think dime posted it somewhere already that they were talking about hundreds (or thousands?) of years in the past for this trilogy

All Rian has confirmed is that it won't focus on any of the saga characters and it'll focus on characters in as of yet unexplored parts of the Star Wars galaxy. Some think it'll be in the past. Some think it'll be in the future. But it could also be at the same time just in a different place. We don't know.

Rian also said he was still planning it all out and writing stuff. So, he may not even know for sure himself yet.

Yeah, I guess this is all I was thinking of. Nothing confirmed but let's wait and see

Ahch to is confirmed to be the first Jedi temple so if it happens this way presumably loads more filming in Ireland.
This is cool.

Here's an idea. You know how we don't know Rey's real name? Or at least her last name (if her real first name is Rey)? Well, what if in Ep 9, she takes the last name Skywalker? Even better, what if either Leia or Force Ghost Luke are the ones that give it to her to have? I think that could be beautiful and meaningful in a profound way. AND it would shut everybody up about how this is "The Skywalker Saga!"

Also, how fucking pissed would Kylo Ren be if Rey took that name?

"That name, it belongs to me!"

I knew I loved you

That moment made me weep openly. The falcon is my favourite thing and favourite character in all Star Wars. I was terrified they were gonna destroy it in TLJ.

Over the moon they didn’t.

And seeing luke on it again. And with R2.

Tears flowing freely in floods down my face.

I had a lot of reckonings during The Last Jedi. Turns out I was wrong about the Falcon and about Han's arc in TFA and about my feelings toward Luke Skywalker.

TLJ may not be the best Star Wars film but it's certainly been the most impactful for me. Also, the one that's made me think the most. There's so much to chew on.

I hope we get even more to dig into in 9. I hope the whole thing isn't just wrap up and pew pew.
