Sure. But Leia seems to have a quite a bit of unfinished business with the new characters. I'm sure they'll make it work but I do think had Carry lived, she would be just as crucial to this final chapter as Han was to TFA and Luke was to TLJ.

I was just thinking that as far as her role in TLJ, she accomplished what she wanted with Poe. Whats left for her is Kylo but she also came to a conclusion (prior to luke showing up) that Kylo was really gone. It seemed she was at peace with that. And Lukes Line "nobody is ever really gone" felt more like a goodbye to Han rather than a nudge to not give up hope on Kylo. I say that in comparison with Lukes final confrontation with Kylo shortly thereafter.

I dont know. Thinking out loud. Maybe her business is finished and now its time for the next generation to truly lead.

Its also kinda for the best after Carrie´s actual skill for acting. She was the worst part in both of the new movies.

Carrie was fantastic in the more subdued scenes. When she had to fire it up for Princess Lei in charge scenes she struggled with the energy. That one line she delivers inTLJ "fire all guns ...." etc.... I couldnt tell if it were her or Admiral Ackbar and I kind of felt bad for Carrie.

All good points. And all show why they will be able to write her out if that's what they want to do. What she goes through in TLJ really goes a long way toward conclusion in hindsight. But if Carrie hadn't died, I don't think we'd be thinking this way. Lucasfilm certainly wouldn't be. Those are good examples of how we accept unfortunate realities. Thank god Rian gave us all of that stuff with Leia. It's gonna go a long way toward helping us all accept not having Leia around in 9, for sure.

Absolutely. I loved her in TLJ and he gave her loads to do.

The alternate take of her meeting luke in the director and the Jedi breaks me every time.
She’s acting but truly feeling it. Crying and saying goodbye to luke but to Ben too.

It’s heartbreaking

I bought the blu ray yesterday but haven't had a chance to watch all the special features yet. I'm so looking forward to The Director and the Jedi.

He didn’t help her in TLJ. They left on bad terms in fact. Could be a good scene them working that out.

Tbh I think it’ll be Obi wan. ‘Rey?/these are your first steps’

Personally I hope that comes into play. Would set up Kenobi standalone nicely.

We've lost Han and Luke. Leia will no doubt be killed off somehow. Why not kill off some of the newer characters?

I want Chewie to get his happily ever after, meet a female wookiee and bang out some kids.

I would be fine with Leia being recast. I've, oddly, had a tough time seeing Carrie as Leia in TFA and TLJ anyway.

I think we have our next Star Wars fandom outrage all lined up.
There’ll be outrage if they kill her off in the crawl, or there’ll be outrage if they recast her.

It’s gonna be a long two years.

This was already mentioned, but is very interesting: John Boyega speaking at AwesomeCon revealed that Daisy Ridley texted him to let him know that J.J. Abrams told her that Finn and Rey will be back together for Star Wars: Episode IX. Boyega thinks the film will be “all out war”.
