Jjs too concerned with things looking cool and big sequences. He’s not much of a storyteller and especially wouldn’t have the chops for a whole trilogy. Had they had kasdan on board to write all three then Maybe.

This was such an awful movie. I actually like The Force Awakens; it was flawed but felt like Star Wars again. The Last Jedi was disappointing but I didn’t hate it as much as some. It tried different things for Star Wars and played against the tropes. The results were mixed at best. But for a final act to the whole series this was a jumbled mess stitched together that left me wondering “what the hell was that?” after watching. Even the Chewbacca costume is bad.

Hard to argue. The best polish I can put on it is it felt like a bunch of serial Flash Gordon episodes stuck together. Which was Lucas’ original intention. But that’s a reach. So much to love in it. But it just doesn’t work as a whole.
Time and distance will show last Jedi to be a masterpiece. I stand by that. Force awakens too in its own way. But that said return of the Jedi is the same jumbled mess that rise of Skywalker is. And we love that. So maybe we’ll come to love this too.

I share your opinion on Last Jedi but it will always suffer because of how Rise turned out. JJ did Rian dirty. Disney’s every two year plan didnt help.
It's a really great film with so much heart and pathos. The imagery is fantastic. It's tense and dark but so fully of hope. It's new and it's old. It's Star Wars all the way. I'll never not love it.
There are some scenes that come back to me, Han with Ben, Rey at the end, the action scene in Pasaana, the mood at Ajan Kloss, how great Luke is in this, the big Rey and Ben scene before he meets Han.
