Right. So everyone in the last few posts except Strat is ok ok with a film being spoiled on them. And you’re all somehow new to the idea of the internet and how it works? Am I reading that right?

The idea is that the "how" is usually more important than the "what", and I can agree with that. But knowing of certain story elements, especially "shocking" ones, ahead of time can have a dampening effect on their dramatic resonance and the visceral experience of following along with a fiction

This is fair, yes

Yes, I agree. But I personally value the "visceral experience" less than the critical one. Feeling the "shock" is one thing. But what about repeat viewings? Once the shock is gone, is the moment/movie worth revisiting? It fucking should be.

I’ve always wanted to make a movie that shows every major plot point in the opening sequence to change the way the viewer relates to what they’re watching. We worry way too much about what happens in stories.

Similar to this, I've always wanted to make a movie that was marketed as a different genre than what the film actually is. Like promote a certain cast for a romantic comedy. But then when you go to the movie it's actually a horror film with a totally different cast.

Guys, this looks really good. They just posted a behind the scenes sort of teaser and it hit me that another star wars film is coming up.

You're talking about most trailers today.

Isn't this kind of what happened with the first Deadpool? There was a concerted effort by marketing to make it look like a romantic comedy.

Everyone knew that was Deadpool. Except for a couple of schmucks lying to their girlfriends.

To be more clear: I realize it was a joke marketing tactic from Fox but it is a good proto example of what you're talking about.

As for the trailers thing: I've seen a few where at the end it's just like, "Well, I don't have to spend $10 to see that movie. Thanks marketing."

I don't want to read the last few pages, but please spoil all Solo related conversation until the end of the American release weekend.

I probably won't even see it until after the first weekend anyway.

This whole notion of spoilers is such a recent phenomenon. I hate it. We had a full century of filmmaking without the concept.

I think it's because there's so much stuff out there, and we're supposed to see all the things. So, we don't make it to everything we want to right when it comes out.

When I was a kid, if you liked Star Wars, you went and saw Star Wars when it came out. No one spoiled it for you, b/c everyone was there. What else were they going to do on the weekend that Star Wars came out?

A making of featurette. I’m reliably told there are no spoilers in here

Tw different podcasts now saying there’s a massive jaw dropping surprise in this and saying it was like Tarkin in Rogue one and amazed Lucasfilm managed to keep it secret. I know what I’m thinking.

Yeah I’m not buying it except two shows have said it.
There’s leaks out there n I haven’t seen anything so it can’t be all that. Just wish it was.
I get to see this Tuesday night. I’ll be sure to spoil it here seeing as how nobody here really cares about spoilers.
