Yeah and there's an argument to be made that taking an L on the box office is worth it in the interest of advancing the property, "expanding the universe", adding to their character library, keeping the Star Wars name in the pop culture landscape, etc. But just looking at the box office by itself, it's very surprising. I don't think anyone expected this to do worse than Justice League.
The more I think about it, the more perplexing the decision not to release this in December -- especially after Lord & Miller's firing --- feels.
Solo felt like a summer blockbuster/popcorn flick. And on top of that, they needed to see if two a year was at all viable yet. Solo made sense in those terms.
I get it. But I still would have moved it, were I in charge. It was a mistake but an understandable one.

They own solo and avengers. Deadpool really isn’t a threat. My point would be this is a calculated soft entry into owning both summer and Christmas. Let’s see if they continue. The Star Wars and marvel should be able to Coexist financially and in popularity.
Avengers is winding up to a close though. Star Wars (standalones) are just getting started. Here to take over. Wait n see.
