The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
my moment in all this is luke and leia reuniting..im sure they did some work on lukes eyes as he looks at leia..so clear so sharp..hes that small farm booy again but new..that whole moment just rang true and perfect and he kisses her and says farewell at the end...all while luke and leias theme plays over the top....just magical..this was the last moment we have anything from our big three..we will never see them together again. this is goodbye for everyone....just so powerful
So, just an hour later after seeing this, but overall I liked it. Some quibbles and praise:
Snoke looked fake when moving; reminded me of the prequel technology. Glad he was killed off. I did like how he connected Kylo to Ren and tricked Kylo. Still, he looked like a cartoon character. Disappointed also that we still don't know where and how and who this Snoke came from?
This force projection sort of comes out of nowhere; I understand it's canon, but Episode 8 seemed like an odd/convenient time to break out this power. Introducing it does help reboot the franchise Jedi thing
Did the slave at the end use the force to get the broom? If so, that is cool, meaning Luke's death inspires many, and anyone, really, can use the force. It's not for royal blood, hence why Rey comes from nobody parents, which I was fine - if it was revealed that her parents were Obi, Luke or someone we know would have been a downer and cliche so I like that she comes from nowhere/nobodies
The Kylo/Rey duo taking on those guards was awesome; all that good killing
I thought about half of the jokes were really good and the other half a bit cringe worthy
It's too bad Carrie Fisher is dead; now I see how she could have had a bigger role in 9.
For this writer, though, there's an occasional sense that Johnson is struggling somewhat to track all these plot threads and, at the same time, give the characters meaningful things to do. An example of this can be seen early on: a curious hologram conversation between Poe Dameron and Maz Kanata, who appears to be engaged in some kind of gun battle even as she'd dishing out advice. Granted, Maz does have some useful information to impart - it's she who tells Finn and his new sidekick, Rose (a great Kelly Marie Tran) about the hacker who can help them with their mission. But that info could just have easily been dished out by Poe Dameron himself; the scene appears to function as a simple reminder that, after the confusion on the planet Takodana in The Force Awakens, Maz Kanata really is still alive.
For the first half of this movie I found it pretty fun and enjoyable but then as some of the desired big reveals were letdowns one after another. I started to wonder if the task of this film was too big for Johnson.
Who is Rey: Nobody Who is Snoke: Doesn't Matter He's Dead (see Darth Maul) What Will Rey Find in the Hole: Nothing Why is Luke so Grumpy: He Almost Killed Ben
These non-reveals were big missed opportunities and now I am not really sure where the tension is for a final movie.
I liked seeing and hearing Yoda school Luke again. I liked the sprinkling of humor but feel like Oscar Isaac is being wasted. The ships chasing each other was a horribly painfully slow and boring plot point Too much-forced diversity Disney. Dial it back just a little. Even stuttering DJ felt like an agenda item. No Knights of Ren Leia flying was dumb. They should have rewritten when Carrie passed to find some way to make her go out heroically. What do you do with Leia now?
This movie tied up too many threads--and not well-- to be a bridge movie. What does JJ do now? I think the point for me is the scale of Star Wars needs to be refined down to something smaller in scope. Not 5 side stories that drag on, but ensemble story-telling and acting.

I dont quite get why everyone seem to love Poe. He is worthless to me...And Isaac performance is the same not matter whats happening. Same thing. Same emotions. Same energy...he is such a good actor and in this saga he is the worst.

He's the sex appeal, with the humour. They've deliberately forged him into something akin to young Han.
