The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
There is a thought that shot is quite possibly a foreshadow vision of Rey's she has in TFA, and the dialogue from Luke is when it actually happens with the KOR are attacking on achtoo. Which would be even better

That's what I was saying. She's seems my what is going to happen. Not what has happened.

With Ford's character dead, Fisher's character likely killed off in this one, Hamill must make it to IX now, right?
We’re fairly sure Leia doesn’t die in this. However it was shot and all finished before Fishers death. So if Leia does die in this one it’ll add a huge layer of poignancy. That said 9 was to be Leias film according to Kathleen Kennedy so let’s see.
I don’t envy JJ having to find a workaround to write her out.

dead or written out for IX, my point is they'll want at least one of the original cast to make it to the next one, right? and hamill is now the only choice; chewy and the droids don't really cut it.

lando wouldn't cut it either. i just can't imagine an ep IX with only the new characters running around, unless VIII does some amazing job of getting us to really care and invest in them.
i guess kylo ren's redemption might be enough to carry IX, he's pretty interesting.

No they don’t have to have a luke survive into the next trilogy if there will be one. If they do th job well enough that they set to do with this trilogies set of characters, and they have thus far, that will be enough.
Luke can come back as a Force ghost though maybe. He is a goner by the end of this saga. Probably dead at the end of last Jedi even

Oh sorry I misread your question. Could be they both die in TLJ? Nobody knows.
Generally the mentor dies so that the student can step up. Possibly maybe. Who knows. If 9 was to be Leias film, and Hamill saying he fundamentally disagreed with where Rian has gone with the story, maybe he doesn’t make it out of 8 Alive?
