I'm still going with the idea that Luke entrusted Rey's parents with Luke's lightsaber, symbolizing the passing of the Skywalker lineage to another family. Kylo finds out, becomes enraged and burns the academy down. Someone grabs Rey and drops her on Jakku to save her.
I'm starting to question that theory a bit after the trailor though.
Yeah that's one of my thoughts too. Amended to have kylo or Snoke tell Rey that Luke killed her parents

Solid amendment. Have Snoke manipulating Kylo, telling him how Luke snubbed him for some random people. Snoke than drops Rey off on Jakku. He knows how powerful she is and plans on coming back for her.

He probably started by wooing Ben with promises of power then tempting him but now it's full on abusive and dominating him like Palpatine does Vader, punishing him all the time for failing n all.

Cool theory that Reys dialogue in the trailer and clip at the end is her talking to Chewie at a campfire and she's frustrated with Luke who doesn't want anything to do with her after realising how powerful she is then we see her go wandering and finding the force free and the books on her own.

I would love something like that, but doubt it will happen. They feel the need to involve Luke in this as much as possible.

How did Luke get that lightsaber back tho? He seemed really surprised she had it at the end of the last one.

Has it been confirmed that we’ll learn Rey’s parentage in this one?
Rian says it's addressed but it's only important as it's important to Rey.
Whatever that means. Seems to be it's massively important to her. She's been waiting for them to return for her for years. Presumably she remembers them even a little bit.
Yeah I think luke hasn't seen that saber since he lost it and his hand.
Do we know that for sure?
Well we don't know anything for sure until the story plays out but i'd say its a safe bet he hasn't seen it since. Im curious in a story as to how it really ends up with Maz in TFA

It's evident even in the trailer he hasn't seen it since then. His hands are shaking as he takes it from her
Well, that doesnt indicate what he is shaking from. He may know her and hoped that he would never have to see her again. The saber could have been with him during the burning down of his jedi academy, etc..etc..
