It is better than Rise.

You didn't like it? That's a shame. If so, we seem to have had the opposite reaction to both TLJ and TROS.

I plan to write a lot more later this morning. There were parts I really liked, parts I really did not like, and some things I'm still processing.

It's very early but I find Force Awakens to have a better story and visuals.

Not to be tired but the hard and fast rule that this needs a second viewing applies more to ROS than any other to date. I left my first viewing winded and bewildered. I liked it. But what a mess. Second one I got over all the huh??? Moments cos I knew they were coming and they blended right in. There’s a definitely things in it I’d change or omit if I could but I see them fading into the film in time

I plan to see it again on Monday.

How is the 4k version of this? I’ve looked for it here, but not found it.

I streamed the 4K version and it looked all right. HDR is a little subtle, and I’m not a fan of the noise reduction baked into the digital intermediate to reduce film grain, but it is what it is.

LV, a lot of people think TROS feels like a sequel to this one.

Did the latest make you change your mind on it?

Sadly, no. After a rewatch, I still think this one is very bad. The difference between this one and TROS is that they’re trying soooooo hard here. They’re being so careful, so precious, so protective of the SW legacy. It makes everything very safe and bland and dull. And all the eye-roll-y fan service and references, oof, I can’t stand that stuff. And I still think they get Han alllllll wrong. Just resetting the character like this is depressing as hell.

But then TLJ came along and kinda threw all that out and did a different thing. Not a better thing, mind you, just different. And when JJ came back to essentially salvage what was left and Disney reportedly rejected a lot of his story ideas, it seems like he gave up, threw out almost all of TLJ, and didn’t give a fuck about ANYTHING anymore. Instead of trying desperately to cater to fans, he borderline trolls them.

Basically this trilogy was two guys throwing each other’s shit out over and over.

That’s fair.

I don’t agree / believe the jj/Disney/screwing Rian aspect. That just isn’t how this stuff works but I see where you’re coming from with the rest.

I don’t want to watch tfa or tlj again until I have ROS at home and can sit watch all three.

I know it’ll settle for me and possibly a great many who aren’t too happy.

I like TFA, but I always felt they got Han wrong.

However, his scene in TROS was gold.

He made sense to me. I didn’t particularly care what he was doing. We all revert to type when we get dumped or break up.

The magic was Ford brought it. It was an older grizzled even kinder Han.

And his interplay with chewie was just spot on

TFA is one of the first times I could relate to Han. I loved what they did with him. Super poignant to me.

I think he’s got chemistry with Driver, which helped a lot in the most pivotal scene. But the scenes with the gangs that are after them, always felt like the Canto Bight of TFA.

Who was treated worse in this series? Han or Luke?

Tough call. Probably Han.
