Exactly. If it's not in the movie it's not a thing.

Tell that to everyone screaming about the rogue one shots that didn't make the film :)

Happy to.

All that is a bit of a double edged sword as it relates to last Jedi.

It could be the reason we only get a behind the scenes reel tomorrow.
They'll want to keep it all under wraps in order to avoid any similar furore about missing footage.

Or it'll make them give us the most very carefully crafted trailer ever.

It's possible, sure. But I'm not too worried about it. I know there was some unused stuff in TFA trailers and no one really cared. There was a bit more talk about it in R1 because they reshot half of the movie. TLJ isn't going to have that issue.

I think they know it's time to deliver. I expect a pretty great trailer to drop at Celebration. But what you're saying is certainly possible. I should probably adjust my expectations.

I dont think the people invovled with movies and lucasfilm etc...care about putting out a trailer knowing some of the footage might not end up in the final product. i think fans get more up in arms about that.

Totally agree.

Was Ben Affleck really rumored at one point to be in the running to direct The Force Awakens? I don't remember that at all.

JJ Abrams is set to direct the next Star Wars movie.

The Star Trek helmer will oversee Episode 7 in the sci-fi movie franchise, which was announced last year after Disney acquired Lucasfilm in a multi-billion dollar deal.

The Wrap reports that Argo's Ben Affleck was also in contention for the coveted position, but that Abrams has won the role. An insider also told Deadline: "It's a done deal with JJ."

Abrams had appeared to rule himself out of the running to direct the film in December, citing his commitment to Star Trek.

"There were the very early conversations and I quickly said that because of my loyalty to Star Trek, and also just being a fan [of Star Wars], I wouldn't even want to be involved in the next version of those things," he previously said.

"I declined any involvement very early on. I'd rather be in the audience not knowing what was coming, rather than being involved in the minutiae of making them."

Star Wars Episode 7 - due to be released in 2015 - is being written by Toy Story 3 screenwriter Michael Arndt.

Joss Whedon, Guillermo del Toro, Wes Anderson and Steven Spielberg had all previously ruled themselves out of helming the film, while Zack Snyder was forced to deny that he was prepping a non-trilogy Star Wars film based loosely on Seven Samurai.

Ewan McGregor, Carrie Fisher and Mark Hamill have expressed a willingness to return to the franchise, with Harrison Ford reportedly hoping to play Han Solo again.

Samuel L Jackson has also expressed his excitement about the new films, and quipped that his character Jedi Master Mace Windu could easily return despite appearing to die in Revenge of the Sith.

"[I'm] totally geeked by the idea of there being more Star Wars," he said. "It's like, okay, Obi-Wan was dead when episode four started, so maybe everyone thinks I'm dead and we'll find out what happened to Mace Windu.

"I can come back as one-armed or a one-handed Jedi that's still around that didn't actually die."

I wouldn't be against him directing one. Force awakens wouldn't be the one I'd choose though.

When I think about it, it would have been nice for a Y wing to be the hero just for once...

Don’t worry TFA. I know you have a little brother coming and you’re gonna feel left out and forgotten but I still love you no matter what.

I've been flying a Y wing almost exclusively in Battlefront 2. Underrated spacecraft.

The worst part about this movie is the casting of Greg? Grunberg. Wasn't he like best friends with JJ or lead some star wars internet stuff? I dont know.

But his scenes as a pilot are so fucking bad. Dude has a huge shit eating grin on his face with the two lines he delivers. He's like the Jimmy Fallon of TFA.

Awful. It takes me out every time.

yes, they're friends from way way back, hence his involvement in almost every JJ thing.

With you 100% on him taking you out. I didn’t even know his name but knew his face and it really was the big eye roll moment for me. Just doesn’t fit at all.

I know him from Heroes more than any JJ thing; I never watched Alias or Lost or any JJ TV show other than Fringe.

Watched this yesterday in preparation for TLJ. I still love it, and have it on par with the OT (probably would rank it third overall - but each of the non prequels (including Rogue One) has moments that are the best in the franchise. There isn't a ton of daylight between 1 and 5. Enduring strengths are the character work (fantastic performances all around, especially from Rey and Ren), the fun of seeing Han back in action, and the kinetic feel to the fights. The moment where Rey gets her lightsaber remains a series highlight. It will be interesting to see how this movie changes in the wake of Last Jedi, as it officially turns into Act I of a larger story.
