Yeah, i hated the throwing the sable thing. One of the most ¨Fuck you guys, i dont like SW¨ moments from Rian.

I find that dumb as well. It fit the tone of current Luke. He had no reason at that moment to just accept that saber, as if it should propel him to change his outlook on life and his place in the galaxy.

Though one might consider the fact he left a map with R2 so he could also be found if need be...

That is a disconnect of sorts.

Has anyone changed opinion about TFA after TLJ was released? I always hated Starkiller Base, and have some other issues with the movie. I look forward to seeing it again though, and now with extra information about what is going to happen. I can also see people being more negative towards it, as a lot of what it built up was torn down.

I haven’t watched TFA since TLJ. I’m almost afraid to. Rians done away with so much from it.

I can’t make peace with Luke just throwin the saber over his shoulder.

It’s literally pissing all over the most awesome scene in TFA.

It does change that scene dramatically. Probably my favorite scene from TFA.

They could have done anything else and made the same point but a dramatic moment rather than play it for comedy.

The biggest misstep in the entire film for me. It was literally a fuck you to JJ and the entire audience.

And a message that this literally isn’t going to go the way you think.

Would have been infinitely more impactiful had they played it seriously rather than comedically.

Yes, even if he handed it back to her saying that she needed it more than him. Or doing a Obi-Wan thing, "this used to belong to me, but that was a long time ago".

He didn't have to be eager for a student, that's fine. The two issues are not connected the way I see it.

There was a thousand other ways to do it and they chose they comedy route.

Does Luke seem like he’s in a fuckin funny headspace to you??

It contradicts especially where the character is at.

It was an FU from Johnson simple as that

100% agree. It was one of my favorite moments in the film. It had a great meta quality to it, too, which I loved. But it told us right away who Luke Skywalker is now in this story and I thought it was perfectly executed.

Oh yeah. That's interesting. Remind me, do we know that Luke definitely gave R2 that piece of the map?

He seemed to be in a very "funny" or odd head space if you're asking me. Yoda-on-Dagobah like. What use did he have for a lightsaber? It was worthless to him.

We think it's funny. I don't think Luke or Rey think it's funny. It perfectly jibes with Luke's head space. He even calls the thing a "laser sword" for crying out loud. And he uses the term so sarcastically. I think it makes all the sense in the world.

Can’t say for sure.

I fuckin love his reunion with R2 tho. And R2 giving him shit and Luke saying hey watch your language and then showing him the Leia hologram

If he called it a laser sword that makes it twice as bad.
