Star Wars fans have even more reason to celebrate May the 4th: Lucasfilm has confirmed that Taika Waititi has officially signed on to write and direct a new Star Wars feature film.

Waititi will write the screenplay with Krysty Wilson-Cairns (1917).
Lucasfilm has also announced a new Star Wars series for Disney Plus from Leslye Headland (Russian Doll). Headland will write, executive produce, and serve as showrunner for the series.

This is a developing story…

Announced during Disney Investor Day tonight, Disney+ is expanding upon the Star Wars universe with *a ton* of new shows, including a mystery-thriller series that will surely appeal to horror fans like ourselves who appreciate the darker sides of the franchise.

It’s titled “Star Wars: The Acolyte,” and it’s coming soon to Disney+!

“The Acolyte is a mystery-thriller that will take viewers into a galaxy of shadowy secrets and emerging dark-side powers in the final days of the High Republic era.”

The series comes from Leslye Headland (“Russian Doll”).

Say whaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

The High Republic is the new era they're launching next year. It's set 200 years before TPM.

Interesting that they're going in on The High Republic before the books detailing the era have really even been established.

Horror-themed series? End of the High Republic era? Are we looking at the development of the Sith?

;) They're not gonna give it to you, B.

Then again, Star Trek did just pull a sentient, parasitic ice gimmick a couple of weeks ago, so, hope springs eternal :D

Problem there.

The SITH haven’t been around in a thousand years.

This will be something else tied into the high republic. A different kind of threat but dark side

Or it's the roots, the very beginnings of The Jedi's inability to detect the Sith. Palpatine isn't 1,060 years old as far as we know.

I wonder, dime. I get that the High Republic is being touted as the golden age of the Jedi, but, it was explicitly pointed out that this show takes place at the end of the era. Why is that distinction being made?

I just can’t find the energy to even engage with the high republic stuff I’m afraid. So. Idiot know.
Gut burned so badly with the new canon books I gave up.

Reading three of four books with one or two tiny little teases and connections hinted at. In. Every. Book. Got really tiresome.

Couldn’t maintain interest.

And it looks really dumb. I’m jut not into it I’m afraid.

I'm super pumped for The High Republic era. I think it's such fertile ground. And it'll be nice to be out of the way of the shadow of the stuff we already know.

Rumors are either Kennedy or Headland or both leaked the development of this series to Variety and it took Disney and Lucasfilm by complete surprise. A pitch hasn't even been made yet. I guess the higher ups are pissed. Wouldn't hold my breath waiting for this one.

This take didn't age well.

Least you owned it.
I post a lot of rumours from reliable verified sources and it more often than not doesn’t come to be. Hollywood’s a crazy town. The rumour is more than likely true. Just the project or dating or platform doesn’t come to fruition.

Don’t worry about it
