I didn't like K2S0 very much, either. His death was shocking and super emotional for me, though.

I watched it with my boys. They were really wowed by it, but didn't hate it either because it's Star Wars.

For me, this really fely like an animated version of a deleted scene. It didn't really add to the story, but was "interesting".
