The board's server will undergo upgrade maintenance tonight, Nov 5, 2014, beginning approximately around 10 PM ET. Prepare for some possible down time during this process.
As a tv series it is more episodic, but also has a larger narrative going through both seasons, not unlike a Star Wars movie.
Either way, nothing negative about the comparison.
It's only negative on a subjective level. It's negative if, like me, the video game nature of the show is a detriment to the show.
It could also be construed as negative in the sense that the comparison isn't accurate. "Episodic" and "longer story arc" are oversimplifications of what MD is saying -- well, no, I don't want to speak for him -- it's an oversimplification of what I'm talking about when I say Mando is a video game.
But, you're right, that isn't inherently negative. People seem to really like it and have responded positively to it. I see it as a weakness of the show, but it's something that has grown on me since S1, to be fair.
My hope is that S3 moves on from that format/structure. But if it doesn't, so be it. I'll keep watching the show and I'm sure I'll find a lot to love about it like I did with S1 & S2.

The villian of the week formula is a tried and true serial technique. It keeps the show from being one overloaded 8 hour movie. Especially in Season 2 where the plot is, give Grogu to a Jedi. You fill in the time with side quests and mini-plots so we don't have to watch 8 hours of Mando taking Baby Yoda to Luke.

I disagree. I think it's what the Netflix Marvel shows were missing. Comic book and Star Wars content really lends itself to that sort of story telling.

You disagree that it's trite? What do you disagree with?
Either way, it's just another difference in our tastes. I like the more long-form storytelling. It's probably my favorite thing about modern TV. I'm also not a huge comic book guy. Though, the ones I have read and enjoyed were all more long form and I don't recall any of them being much like a video game.

Yes. I disagree. In a world of binging TV shows, I am happy with subplots, side missions, and monsters of the week.
It's like when I'm streaming stuff, I switch between at least 2 different shows. Show A on one day. Show B on the next day. I get overwhelmed and bored with 8 hours of TV.
I made a passing comment once when Joey watched a whole bunch of seasons of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia in a row, that watching one season straight through makes me feel like a bad person. I feel the need to pull myself out of this stuff from time to time.
It's less pronounced with Mandalorian or The Office, but Always Sunny or The Preacher are shows that are so gross, violent, or negative that I have to stop for a while.
Am I still talking about the same thing that I was talking about at the beginning of the post?

I'm still not sure what you're disagreeing with in my post from before!
But I get what you're saying, regardless.
That's not typically how I watch TV but I totally get where you're coming from and why you watch the way you do. So it makes sense that "monster of the week" storytelling appeals to you.
None of the Netflix Marvel shows can hold a candle to Mando overall, and I’ve seen them all.
I liked S1 of Jessica Jones a lot. But I never watched the subsequent seasons.
I had issues with Mando S1 but I at least watched S2.
And I'm looking forward to S3. So I guess I like Mando better.
For me, Jessica Jones, started out very promising. But I felt it got gradually worse, as early as during the first season, and much more in subsequent seasons.
I really enjoyed the first seasons of The Punisher and Daredevil, but those too lost their way.

I couldn't even watch two episodes of The Punisher. I got through the first two seasons of Daredevil but it was a chore.
