Is the former imperial chick actually a double agent and really working for Gideon undercover ? Theory going around that she wiped pershings mind under orders as Gideon doesn’t want the republic getting their hands on or his mind back into his work
I can’t think why else she would turn that mind flayer machine all the way up
My read on it the scene was that, yes, she's still working for Gideon/The Empire/First Order. Still not sure about all her motivations but I imagine all of that will become clear as we go on.

I'm not sure what to call it. A 40 min out of the blue insert that means....something. One of the oddest story beats and edit choices I can recall in my time watching TV. Well not really though right? They did the same thing in Bobba Fett huh? Paste a new story in the middle of another one. I don't think it works but who am I?

Unless there’s a payoff with Pershing getting his mind-wiped later in the story or that the communications major has been working for Gideon this whole time and he’s coming back, then what’s the point?
I have a little bit of faith in the people running this show that there will be a payoff

They saw Andor and said, “Hey, we should try that!” but lack the talent to pull it off.

Getting to see the rise of the first order wouldn’t be a side plot. Star Wars In anll its forms is meant to seen as one story and always had. They’re just doing their take on the MCU (despite them doing this before the mcu was a thing) Remember we don’t have an end point for this series whereas we do for andor. So there’s all the room to play in that they want.
If rebels and indeed clone wars taught us anything, it’s that there’s no throwaway or filler episodes. It all does something important down the line.
The first episode of Rebels featuring the space whales, was widely criticised as pointless and futile. By the end of the series we knew that to be wrong.
Y’all just aren’t ready for long form storytelling anymore

This show has earned my trust. I'm willing to go along with this side plot for a bit.
We'll have to wait to find out.... but again I really don't think this was a "side plot."
If it’s not some kind of subplot, then it’s pointless and has no business in the season. If it doesn’t move the overall story along, why is it there?
I DO think it will be picked up on later, but would’ve been served better as snippets throughout multiple episodes rather than giving a whole episode to it. Really interested to see where it’s going and how this lines up with Djaren’s story.

^^ I don’t remember any such complaints when Mando and Ahsoka and even Luke took over Boba Fetts series? (There were no such complaints)
As this all unfolds, I think we're all going to see how interconnected all of this is. Mando, Bobba, Ashsoka, Skeleton Crew (remember once upon a time there was even going to be a show called Rangers of the New Republic), etc... all of it is tied together and leading toward a larger "storytelling event."
There will be odd choices along the way. Which I love. Favs has never been much for traditional structures in his original work. I think it'll all tie in and make sense as time goes on. But we'll see. Maybe I'm out of my mind.
