They have to be though, right? I mean with the Rebels references in Rogue One and Solo. I don't know if they sit around a table and discuss it, but I'm certain that Lucasfilm has people that check and veto things that violate canon ... or at least require an explanation be given.

Has he never heard of the story group and that the directors and writers collaborate with them?

I wouldn't call Maul an Easter egg. And casual fans probably all thought, "wait that guy died". But he was alive and well in both animated series. I think that is some pretty serious collaboration within the Canon

Maul is a character from a live-action movie, though. I mean, I don't watch the cartoons, and his appearance didn't break my brain like "BUT WAIT I THOUGHT HE WAS DEAD?!?!?". I just thought "huh, they're bringing him back, cool".

They chose to continue a storyline that was a huge part of both of the animated series in the Solo movie

Goodness. ROTJ keeps slipping int he rankings for me. As a child it may have been my favorite of the OT but every time I have put it on in the past couple of years I find myself shaking my head and bored. There still is no better climax than the full on Vader/Luke dual, and seeing Luke as a jedi saving Han is great but everything else leaves me rather empty.
