Opening with Bman is a bold move.

Weird set, which seems par for the course for the band's higher profile shows for whatever reason.

It was good fun tonight and they really seemed to enjoy playing at a venue of that scale. Interesting set list and a few songs I didn’t expect to hear at what is essentially a festival (Low Light, In Hiding, Breath at #3) but the big hitters really landed. Once, Porch and Jeremy were excellent.

I’ve seen it mentioned on the threads for other shows on this tour that they’re starting to look and sound like age is catching up with them a bit. I’d agree with that as some songs sounded s bit sloppy and lacklustre. Breath and Save You were tuned down and really lose their momentum as a result. Ed has also stopped trying for some notes which is a shame.

On the whole, it was good fun and I’m just happy to have seen them again. Having been spoilt with c.35 song sets running for three hours, this direction of shorter shows is totally fine. Looking forward to tomorrow.

John McEnroe played on RITFW. Seriously.

You're right, Breath is in a lower key - I don't think they've done that before:

I've been revisiting the US leg 1 shows with Matt in the last few weeks with thoughts of putting a mix together and I really noticed how age is catching up with Ed. Lots of times where he's deliberately encouraging the crowd take the difficult vocal parts, or where he seems a bit out of steam. Blanking on lyrics is a perennial complaint, but plenty of that too.

He's making calculated choices for his current range. I thought he sounded great on some of those shows compared to the 2014-2018 tours. Less straining and more of a focus on phrasing things in a particular way.

I think it's safe to say that the shorter shows and constant talking are helping too.

Good degree of novelty to that set, but lots of songs I’d personally be fine missing

Nobody goes to a Pearl Jam show thinking 'I really hope they play a song by Pete Townshend's brother tonight!'

Maybe a mod can swap the thread titles or merge the 2 London threads since the 7/8 show is being covered in the 7/9 thread?
