Ok, before Arms Aloft. Ed's voice was shot afterwards.

I don’t think that was the point he was making.

Yeah, seriously.

It really was. Honestly, even Know Your Rights was a great version. It had a really cool feel.

There were a couple of points during the main set where I just couldn’t get into the flow. Like Wishlist and Won’t Back Down seemed oddly placed, and following them with Porch was just like, “Wait, we’re already at the end of the set?”

But overall a really strong show with some nice surprises and great performances. Disappointed I can’t stay for Monday. It feels like they’re building up and that one will be even better.

This is pretty much how i felt about it. That whole run from Wishlist through Footsteps seemed like a different show from the first dozen+ songs when the band was just on fire and the crowd was eating it up. The crowd was eating flaming band members.

Best part of the show last night was when Ed went down front during Breath and sang the If I knew where it was part to a kid who was with his dad. :heartbeat:

NYC 2016?

Yes, but they were flipped then (Breath first, SOLAT second). Did the same thing 12/6/13 (Seattle), 10/29/13 (Charlottesville), 10/22/13 (Philly), 9/25/09 (Vancouver), 6/21/07 (Dusseldorf), 10/1/05 (Atlantic City), and 9/11/98 (NYC)--didn't go back further. So for a song that's relatively rare (that is, Breath), playing it back-to-back isn't that uncommon, but doing SOLAT first hasn't been done since 1994 at the most recent, and I didn't even look at those shows.

I went back one more show and there it was: SOLAT immediately preceded Breath 4/11/94 in Boston.

Completely agree. The dad and son hugged afterwards and it was the sweetest thing ever. It got to me on so many levels.

07. Animal
08. Getaway
09. Leaving Here-(Holland, Holland, Dozier)

Even allowing for Getaway, this is one hell of a start to a show.

14. Not For You / Modern Girl-(Sleater Kinney)
15. Can’t Deny Me

17. I Won't Back Down-(Lynne, Petty)
18. Porch

This run is a real Frankenstein's Monster. Wishlist > I Won't Back Down is great, though.

Encore 1
19. Just Breath

Rough, but I'm sure the romantics in the crowd were happy.

27. Rearviermirror

Now that's how you do an encore!

Encore 2
28. Rebel Rebel-(Bowie)

Was this the whole song, or just a few bars?

30. Alive
31. Rockin' In The Free World-(Young)
32. Yellow Ledbetter

I get this is a boilerplate closing run, but this is about when my mind would start drifting.

Overall looks like a really great set, certainly more interesting than Missoula (on paper, anyway). The Rodman stuff is weird to me, but I'd otherwise imagine that the band made it a point to make this feel like a real special show for Chicago, just as they did in Seattle and Missoula...

I love the general approach they're taking with this brief tour: Tailoring the shows to the city's unique identities, helping create a sense of community around the show, and playing set lists that offer some great performances of both deep cuts and live staples, even if they are heavy on the staples and covers. While it's not a 30-date tour, I'd say this is one of the more inspired tours they've done since VFC.

Did any RMers meet up?

Rebel rebel was complete. Rough, but complete.

Missing fits seamlessly into the sets. Such a great choice to honor Chris’ legacy
