Referring to this from the archived forum

1995-07-11 Soldier Field: Chicago, IL [3 sources]
• 3CD silver bootleg (KTS label)
• Mix of: MWFM > Bootleg CD / Q101 promoCD (Animal) + CSB > DAT
• Sam's Remaster

Does anyone remember, who is Sam and what is the story behind his remaster?

I believe I'm Sam. I did the remaster a long time ago. I got rid of most of my PJ bootlegs related stuff a few months ago and I'm afraid this was thrown in the can with most of what I've had. Sorry.

Don't wanna tell the story of what you did to it?

Also, a new mix was posted on dime about a month ago: http://www.dimeadozen.org/torrents-deta ... ?id=474583.

This uses the same sources as the old mix, but doesn't suffer from the time drift.

BLG did a great job on the new matrix. My only problem with his work is that he leaves everything "raw" and just mixes it together, results be damned. A lot of these sources need EQ work, especially the Solider Field soundboard, before you can get a decent sounding matrix out of it. So his mixes don't come out as good as they should.

Aren't you usually anti-matrix? What's different about this one?

I'm not and never have been anti-matrix. I didn't include any matrixes in the remasters series because A) they're not stereo soundboards and B) I didn't make them.

Oh, I thought I remember reading you post something about not being a fan of matrixes at some point. It could have been someone else or I could be making it up entirely.

It sounds like something I might've said.

I usually find most of them a waste of time because they're often haphazardly aligned and, even when they're not, it's very rare that any kind of complimentary EQ has been done. As WCT pointed out, throwing two sources together without any thought as how they'll sound together isn't really a recipe for a great sounding end product.

I'm not usually a fan of matrices either, but the Orpheum one you did Pete was a great listen :nice:
