It is a little known fact that Pearl Jam was booked to play the Big Day Out back in 2001, but made the understandable decision to pull out following the Roskilde Festival tragedy of 2000. Thirteen years later, Big Day Out founder Ken West would land his 'white whale' and book Pearl Jam to play a festival in Australia and New Zealand for the first time.
Disappointed at the lack of Pearl Jam sideshows, fans were braced for shorter festival-style sets but were instead treated to full-length shows providing a mix of hits for the casual fan and deep cuts for the faithful. In fact, the Sydney show on Australia Day was the band's single longest show on these shores ever.
This compilation aims to showcase the highlights of the 2014 Big Day Out tour, and use as many songs not featured on my previous Australian tour compilations as possible. As always, I hope you enjoy listening to this as much as enjoyed making it : )
