By popular demand, here is my take on a live version of the album Lightning Bolt. While some songs were performed consistently well on tour (such as the title track), others frequently featured flubbed lyrics and other errors. Most songs did not have 'perfect and definitive' versions that demanded inclusion, so I have picked the ones I believe worked best for the compilation, to create a seamless and enjoyable flow. The sequencing has also been altered from the original album to better suit the live context. Some songs have not yet clicked in the live setting (e.g. My Father's Son) I may update this compilation if better performances come from future shows.

Tracklist below. I'll pre-empt anyone bemoaning me not including the Hartford version of Pendulum - it just didn't sound great leading into Lightning Bolt, and the Phili version is just as good but with a tighter ending (and no feedback squeal). As a wise Adelaidian once said in this forum, if you don't like the choices - make your own comp!

PM for more info

Ridley or anybody else, do you find when making mixes that crowd noise dictates sequencing more than track selection? Sometimes I"ll take an extended encore crowd noise snippet, mix it, fade it, or mess with volume for a nice flow between radically different crowd noise but more often than not my perfect track list gets blown apart and reordered to make smooth crowd noise transitions. Anyone have tricks for this?

For me, it is rarely it plays a part. I have found so many ways in the past few years to get around it or manipulate it that I have found so many ways I can make it better in past things I've done. For example, I am tearing apart my 2003 mix nightly and trying to make it alot better right now. Some tricks I use is making a seperate track of just crowd noise as bridge between two tracks, they I usually burn the disc and add the noise one of the tracks and rework it to sound perfect.

I haven't heard ANY live material from this tour and I think the album blows, so this will be interesting. Hit me up with a link Bradley.

Listening to this now...

I have to say, LB is much better live (with the right performance) than on the record. I'm quite enjoying it.

Lightning Bolt the song is killer
My Father's Son sounds good here
Infallible is less neutered
Getaway feels better placed in the middle of the sequence
Swallowed is my favorite track off the record, and lives up to it live
Even Sirens when played well is listenable

We'll see how the slower songs fit in this context, still listening...

Kudos to mr ridley for putting this together

Yea Lightning Bolt(song) is really good live, definitely the one I listen to most of the live tracks.

Any updates to this compilation yet? Though I think there's only been 2 bootlegs released since this was put together.

I'll wait until all the 2014 official bootlegs are out before doing an update. Sounds like MFS is much improved this year, hopefully we get a good Swallowed Whole too :nice:

I still haven't listened to this compilation. I'm trying to hold out until all the 2014 bootlegs are out in hopes that Pearl Jam will have nailed every song at least once. I think this will eventually wholly replace the studio album for me, much like Black Market Avocado has replaced S/T.

Any chance of a new version of this? There's gotta be some better performances of some of these songs by now.

Not in the near future - too much else on my plate.

Lowlight79 is working on a new Lightning Bolt tour comp though so he's sure to pick out the best versions since for that

its, A LOT easier to do with PJ's official bootlegs, especially on one given tour, as the sound tends to be more consistent.

The nightmare is taken multiple different sources to mix a mega compilation. When we put together the Sleater-Kinney live vault years ago, there was a couple of really good versions of songs that took a lot of editing to get just right. The PJ encore break splice was always a favorite of mine. I think ive even used a few PJ encore breaks on other bands live comps ive made over the years

It's funny you say that because I am working on my 2011 - 2016 mix now. And if seems as different years of sources is giving me trouble. But I was gonna not use as many encore breaks, but I am keeping them
