Seems like a contradiction to me, how can he be consistent but biased at the same time?
I've always thought Spenno was more objective than most when it comes to live PJ.

This :nice:

Not sure if it's compilation-worthy, but the band sound good on Habit (still drop-tuned, but not as severely as recent years). While Liam's vocals are more passionate than Ed's, I'm not convinced the song suits his voice.

Update: This is also an exemplary version of Mind Your Manners
Agreed - it might just inch out Seattle as the best rendition yet

Generally speaking, he prefers tight, well rehearsed sets with almost a distaste for rarities. Right? That shows he is consistent within his criteria. But, all things being equal, he would prefer the Australian performance over the US performance. That shows bias.

The Brain of J comment seems more fitting to end with "RIP PJ" than "STONE'S SOLO." Just sayin'. It wouldn't have ended with "STONE'S SOLO" in the 2013 Official Bootleg thread - it would have ended with "RIP PJ."

Spenno, I didn't mean it as an insult to you. If I offended you, I apologize. Nothing personal. It was an observation years in the making. For the record, I agree with most of your assessments.

I'm going to drop it, so we can focus on the 2014 Bootlegs (which are being released before the 10C even fulfills the 2013 Bootleg orders).

:peace:

I genuinely don't believe this is true - but I suppose it hardly matters, discussing my subjective taste in Pearl Jam bootlegs is kind of silly.

Anyway, that performance of Infallible from Auckland was very, very good.

I've been taking in spenno's live reviews for years (like maybe 2006 or so?), I don't find him biased at all.

Although, I would disagree about the 2003 tour and the band not hitting their stride till the US shows. From what I've heard of the Japanese boots, the band played very well. Granted, I have not heard an entire show, just "the Guest Are So Refined" compilation. That comp is pure gold, I love it.

Yeah, though Ed pretty much only handles the backing vocals in the chorus, that's definitely the best version of Habit the band's played in a number of years.

All in all, I enjoyed the hell out of the Auckland show, far more than any US 2013 show (sorry CopperTom). Really looking forward to hearing the rest of the tour!

The Gold Coast show is pretty rough vocally from Ed I'm afraid.

Big Wave does sound good except Matt seems to be a bit all over the shop in the outro. Other rarities Down and Sad are decent, especially given the latter was an impromptu request.

Sydney and Melbourne released this week - I really hope Syd sounds as great as it does in my memory :)

i remember ed losing his voice pretty badly towards the end of the first set in melb, so expect to hear that on the boot. he sounded great in sydney the whole way through though from what i remember.

Man I hope Sydney stands up. It was pretty strong in person and there's 3 of us saying it.

Look guys, I told you.

Regardless of Vedder's withered pipes, there's a sense of engagement and general joie de vivre apparent in these performances that was absent from the 2013 shows.

Diggin' it.

Spenno is not only a lawyer but he also speaks French fluently. Take that ladies.

The best version of Habit they have played in recent years was the version from 2011. I think it was in Hamilton or Ottawa.
