I agree that it's more interesting when traditional set closers get moved around, but I don't think they should do much experimenting with the openers. The traditional openers work better than anything else and putting YL there just to mess with things would be nothing but a novelty.

Also, I hate the more recent trend of starting with a traditional opener and then another slow/mid tempo song. Give me Release into Breakerfall or something similar any day.[/quote

This.

Yeah, I like the traditional openers then into the heavier stuff. 2000 and 2003 were good like that. I liked 2003 because they included Can't Keep. Still, I wouldn't mind for a bit more variety. Play Alive, RVM, and Porch mid set, and also use openers in mid set too. After a series of faster songs, it wouldn't be a bad thing to hear Of The Girl, or Sometimes, or Can't Keep. In the Euro leg of the 2000 tour, OTG was played mid set a few times.

This is why I love the 00 tour
They seem to have had a smaller pool of songs played but they jumped everything around a lot so it didn’t seem like it.

Yup. Some setlist had Alive and RVM mid set, and even Hail Hail or Sleight Of Hand opening the 1st encore. The lists seemed much more varied back then.

18 years ago today the Binaural tour started in Lisbon in front of 40,000 people. Gonna listen to that bootleg today to commemorate the occasion...

I was listening to the Katowice shows this weekend not realizing they were 6/15 and 6/16. Man alive what good shows.

Oh yes!:) And tomorrow 18 years ago was my first show: Salzburg. Unreal open air show in the middle of the town and the bootleg shows that it was one of the best European shows, too. Extremely tight playing on that one!

I went to Seattle for the first time for the last two shows. Seeing them play Alive is one my favorite PJ concert memories.
Actually, I have lots of fond concert memories of them. Maybe one day I will post a humble brag list.

Seattle, pre- Amazon explosion, must have been nice.

Listening to 11.6.00 Seattle on Sirius XM from this morning.

Man I dont really like the 2000 tour but they sound AMAZING here...

Except for one thing.

i really hate that this tour (and its why I love 2003 tour more) makes every song sound like it came off of Binaural. It makes every song sound the same. Hail Hail is played fast and furious but it sounds like a Binaural song. And I dont even like Binaural. I felt that 2003 had many more colors and shades. 2000 is like a string of binaural rockers even if they actually aren't.

I will say though that the Binaural songs THEMSELVES sound SIGNIFICANTLY better than their album equivalents. Grievance live was AMAZING but the studio track is very undercooked. They make me think Binaural could have been much much better if they made a live compilation from this tour. They're playing a great Evacuation right now. And I hate that song.

Whether I like the Binaural songs or not, this is undoubtedly one of the best shows I've ever heard in terms of Eddie and the band coming to rock. They all sound great

Is this like considered a classic all-time show? It's by far the best 2000 show Ive ever heard.

Wow Baba o Riley!

I thought Eddie was incapable of singing that one well but it actually sounded pretty good there

Saratoga and Pittsburgh are both better than Seattle II.

But yes, Seattle 11/6 is a pretty classic show.

The phenomenon you describe of the non-Binaural songs taking on Binauralesque qualities is right on, and precisely what I love about that tour.

Binaural might be one of the only tours where most of the songs were equally as good live as they were on the album.

Thanks. Not that it’s in order, but I have always thought that while I am not a huge fan of the 2000 tour, the Saratoga show was a highlight (I just assumed I was biased because I was there).

In terms of full shows from the US, I tend to gravitate to Jones Beach 3, Saratoga, Chicago, and Seattle 2 as the go tos. I know there are good shows from that tour, and I went nuts and got all of them when they released all those shows. I remember thinking that the Euro tour was really good that year though.

They weren't 'equally as good' they were like 10x better the album is not near as good as a live compilation would have been. Like Grievance on the album is like a 2.5/5 and live its like a 4/5

I'm still a fan of the 2000 boots.
