Listening to Toronto right now...Ed is doing some very Sonic Youth-y things on rhythm guitar behind the "Immortality" solo. I miss when PJ were this subtle...

Is that the one where Ed doesn't fuck up the words?

Yes!

That whole show is great.

Seattle 2. Seattle 1 has its moments but I remember Ed's voice being kind of trashed during the first night. Seattle 2 they lay it all on the line...that's such a great show.

I've been OD'ing on PJ2000 lately.

Ed's voice really gets lower and lower in the mix as the tour progresses, huh?

yeah im not a fan of those mixes...i think they nailed it with the 2005 boots and 2006 too...but with the 2000 you really cant listen the bass and some of the mixes arent loud enough too....

I really love the way they sound overall, but it just seems like by the end of the tour Ed's voice is barely audible.

I listened to the first Jones Beach show earlier in the week and was just bowled over by how great Ed sounded. "Soon Forget" was almost the highlight of the show, just because of how perfectly the sparse arrangement brought out the richness and color in the voice.

Evidently, so did Brett after mixing the first 100 or so hours of live Pearl Jam that year. "If I have to hear that bozo sing one more time, I swear..."

Still the best sounding official boots to these ears. The 2011-2012 shows sound fantastic, easily the best since 2000, but I really love the heft of the guitars on the 2000 shows (and Vedder's much stronger vocals, naturally.)

All the 2000 boots over heard sound really quiet/small. The US leg boots are much better than the euro ones though.

The three "legs" of the tour have different characteristics on the bootlegs so you can't just dismiss the whole tour.

The Europe leg has really low volume levels and barely any bass. They are for all intents and purposes "raw". They would not use this method again.

The first US leg is perfection in terms of the bootlegs and performances. Everything is just right.

The second US leg, as somebody mentioned, has Eddie too low in the mix. Eddie must have heard the first leg and said to Brett "my vocals are too loud...turn them down". That's the only thing I can fathom. The mastering is also more cooked than the first leg and closer to how the 2003 bootlegs would sound. Somebody wanted it louder too.

Seattle II, however, has a good vocal level, so Brett must have taken extra care with that one.

All three legs sound different, and all three feel different. That's why I decided to make three one-disc mixes for the this tour rather than one huge mix - because it's like three entirely different experiences.

I also prefer the mixes of the first US leg.

Edit: Thanks for sending me all those 2000 shows WAAAAAAYYYYYY back in the day. I still listen to them all the time!

I love the NA1 mixes. When I said I like Ed lower in the mix I said that without having listened to many later NA2 shows recently, and meant more in comparison to later years.

Pittsburg is perfect. If you do not have it, get it.

Did we trade? I remember trading 2000 shows with somebody but I can't remember who. It was probably around 2002 because that's when I finally got a CD burner. I was way behind everybody.

I have good memories of making long-distance trips to Best Buy many years ago and buying many of the 2000 boots that I didn't have. They still had them on clearance long after the local music stores had dumped them...they must have had a deal with Sony or something to clear them out. Eventually I replaced all of my CDR's with originals. I even bought new copies of Pittsburgh and Saratoga because I wore them the fuck out.
