I listened to Perth 2003 for the first time today in many years. I always felt the bootleg didn't represent what it was like at the gig very well…it felt flat.

But what struck me listening to it again now, was how slow the songs were played that night, and how good Eddie's voice sounded.

I haven't listened to other shows from this 2003 Aus tour. Were they this slow on that whole tour or was it just that night?

Any recommendations for other shows from Australia 2003?

I always felt like the band and Ed were a little rusty on that opening leg of the tour, and the crowds on the bootlegs seem lifeless. They're a lot tighter in Japan a month later, and then the U.S. legs are overall pretty great.

Most of the songs were played at the perfect tempo in 2003. Even Flow, Corduroy, Given To Fly are all excellent and don't suffer from the rushed performances of recent years. I think GTF particularly sounds the best it's ever sounded in 2003. Perfect drumming, soaring Ed vocals. It's all mixed great. 2006 is probably the next best year for GTF.

Adelaide, February 16th 2003 is a great show.

One of Ed’s first solo shows. Santa Cruz, 4/5/08, it’s amazing how much Ed was focused on these shows when he really started playing solo. I was second row here, and the place basically was a gymnasium. And Santa Cruz was awesome.

The Japan shows are great. However I don't mind a little bit of rust :)

Let's say you were a hardcore live-show junkie for a good 10 years but haven't listened to a live PJ show in quite some time. What would be your go-to show for breaking that streak? I'm thinking Gorge '05 but want some input.

Melbourne 1 is pretty good.
They’re even slower on those Japan boots.

Atlanta '94 is certainly top dog in many respects. Maybe something a little more obscure. I remember the Boise 2000 show was phenomenal, but can't remember if the boot captured that or not.

boise is great, yes, and is overshadowed by the seattle shows after it. cincinnati is another kind of under-the-radar good show from that year, imo.

i'd still go with a known classic, though, if i hadn't listened in years. if a highly regarded, fan recognized classic doesn't rekindle any sort of love, i'm not sure how an obscure, lesser known show would. they're obscure/lesser known for a reason.

I was going to recommend Saratoga 2000.

An excellent straight forward set. Yellow Ledbetter tagged with Nobody’s Fault But Mine was quite cool, and this is my favorite version of Black. Soon Forget was kind of fun based on the crowd’s inability to clap in synch.

I don't know all that many shows, but my favorite show ever may be Chicago 2000. So many songs well-performed, and in particular the end of the first set...

Nothingman
Do The Evolution
Insignificance
Black
Parting Ways

I always loved when they ended a set with Parting Ways.

I just want to hear Parting Ways once before Eddie’s larynx falls out and this whole thing is over.

It's one of the few songs that can still make me gasp when I've heard it played full band or solo.
